Evan's Baseball Tournament USSSA Summer Slam

This past weekend Evan had another baseball tournament in Canton.  It was his team's first USSSA tournament, competing at the AA level.  There were 8 teams in the bracket and they were very good teams.  His first game was Saturday morning at 9am against a AAA 9U team from the Hit Dogs organization.  We struggled early on with pitching and couldn't stop them.  We lost 22-7.

I was unable to attend his first game since I had to read names at Thurston's graduation at 11am.  Sean also had his last soccer game that my parents took him to in Novi.  They won their last game 8-1 and took a nice team picture together.  My parents took him out to lunch and back home where he hung out until Evan's 2nd game was over.  I went from graduation to picking up lunch from Beirut Bakery and then on to Evan's 2nd game.

His 2nd game was at 12:45pm and it was pretty hot by this point.  The temps were close to 90.  They played the Detroit Bees 10U team.  Although we played a little better, we still lost 12-4.

We came home and rested from being in the heat.  Evan went over to Kellan's house to swim for a bit and hang out with him.  Sean and I went to Sams Club and Walmart to do some grocery shopping.  And then it was off to bed.

Evan had his third and last game on Sunday at 10:45am.  Thankfully it had cooled off over night and the temperature was much more comfortable.  In fact, it was a beautiful morning for baseball!  They played the Jets Elite 10U team.  Same thing...they played the best they'd played all weekend, but it wasn't enough to stop them and they lost 12-6.  Their team is definitely in a slump right now.  Hopefully they'll be able to gain some confidence at the plate and they'll be able to snap out of it.  We have two more tournaments to go and four more weeks of League games too.

The boys both went over to Kellan's birthday party to swim and we enjoyed the rest of our afternoon, grilling dinner and getting ready for another week of work and school.

Memorial Weekend at Home

With Sean being in the Canton Cup Tournament, we all stayed home instead of going up to the lake house like we normally do.  It ended up being a really nice weekend weather-wise, but we still had a great time home.  Sean had a game Friday night so we didn't do anything special other than go to his game, which they lost.  He got a Kona Ice on the way out to head home.  I had cocktails over at Shelley's house in her backyard.

Saturday, Evan got up and started working on his mini-society project.  He was making stress balls to sell at the mini-society and had to make a store front/poster board too.  Sean and I had lunch plans with Ashley and Corey as a belated birthday gift to Corey.  We went to Mod Pizza and then on to Dave and Busters.  The boys had fun and it was nice to chat with Ashley!

After Sean's late afternoon soccer game that they won, we stopped at Los Tres Amigos on the way home for a quick dinner.  Charlie came over to spend the night and the boys played non-stop outside with the neighbor kids.  We enjoyed a bonfire over at Mike and Kelly's house down the street, although my feet got eaten up by mosquitos.  Ugh!

Sunday Sean had another soccer that they lost and the tournament ended for them at that point.  My parents came to the game and took us to Dairy Queen for ice cream after and invited us to swim at their condo.  We went over there to swim for a bit and the kids stayed behind to spend the night with them.  So, Scott and I took Luna home and then went out for dinner at Sean O'Callaghan's in downtown Plymouth.  We were lazy and just watched TV at home after that, but it was nice to not have to put kids to bed.

Monday we went to the pool club right when they opened for the day.  It got packed, quick!  We enjoyed the afternoon at the pool with our packed lunch and snacks.  Then we went home and BBQ'd burgers for dinner, had a bonfire with s'mores, and did some small fireworks before the kids needed to go to bed.  It was a nice day!  A hot one, but nice to not be stuck in traffic driving home from up north...

Sean's Canton Cup Soccer Tournament

Memorial Weekend we all stayed home instead of going up north like we usually try to do.  Sean's soccer team opted to play in the Canton Cup this weekend and we all wanted to watch him and his team.  His team is a division 1 rec team and they entered into the lowest division in the tournament.  His bracket was all lower-select teams so we knew it was going to be a challenge playing against select.  All of his games were at Heritage Park this year for the 11v11 fields, which was a bummer since the majority of the tournament was played at Independence Park, including the food trucks and merch tents.

His first game on Friday was against the Canton Regulators.  The Sharks did their best to stop the Regulators, but ended up playing mostly defense the whole game and lost 2-0.

Saturday his game wasn't until 4pm so we were able to enjoy most of the day before showing up to the field.  They went up against the Warriors, a select team from Waterford.  Our boys ended up winning 5-0 and it was an exciting game, giving the kids a bit of confidence that they could turn it around.

Sean had his friend Charlie spend the night.  Sunday, the game wasn't until 1pm.  They played a team from Windsor that was very, very good.  They played a game of keep away from our boys and we lost 4-0.  The kids were bummed and were officially out of the tournament at that point.  The Windsor team and the Regulators from our Friday night ended up being the two teams in the championship game.

It was a fun weekend and a good experience, even though they didn't go as far as they wanted!  I'm glad Sean was able to have another Canton Cup experience!  They'll still finish the regular rec season as the division champions, as they've won all of their regular season games.  Their last game is on Saturday and they're projected to win.

Go Sharks!
