Evan is 7 months!!

7 months old

16 lbs. 8 oz.

28"

Baby Evan is back to his normal self after a 3 week battle with a double ear infection this past month.  It was no picnic.  He had a cold for about a week.  Just when the cold was over, he became super crabby.  Waking up in the middle of the night several times a night complaining.  Even a bottle wouldn't soothe him.  We thought it was the beginning of teething since he was drooling like crazy, but a trip to the pediatrician confirmed he had a double ear infection.  We started with a round of amoxicillin, which after four days did nothing for him.  Another trip to the pediatrician's office and she switched him to augmenten.  He finished his 10 day dose, but within a day or so was back to his sleepless nights and crabby personality.  I was ready to put him in a basket and leave him on our neighbor's porch.  I kid, I kid.

We are rounding out the final few days of his new prescription for Omnicef and this one seems to be working wonders.  Gone is the fussing for no reason.  Gone are the sleepless nights.  Ummm...who are we kidding?  Of course he still wakes up.  But, at least he's in a good mood when he wakes up now.

This month we also tried to switch his formula to a milk-based formula to see if he was over the milk protein intolerance.  Between the drooling, fussiness from his ear infections, and changing of prescriptions, we couldn't have picked a worse time.  Needless to say, five days after changing his formula, we switched him back.  We'll have to wait until things have calmed down with him to see if his demeanor and constipation were in part to the meds or the formula.  To be continued...

Other things mentionable this month would include that he is now able to sit up unassisted for long periods of time.  I can walk away without having to worry that he'll fall over.  And even on the rare occasion that he does, he's figured out how to get onto his tummy from whatever position he fell into and he's one happy dude.  He's good about reaching really far and grabbing things that he wants without toppling over.  Sean is not a fan of this milestone since some of the things he's reaching for include Sean's most prized possessions.  I think it's safe to assume that Evan is going to also be a big fan of cars and trucks.  Good thing we have plenty of those to go around...

Now that it's officially Spring, we've been blessed with a few pleasant days where we could actually go outside in a lighter jacket to soak up as much fresh air as we can before we're hit with another really cold day.  Evan has enjoyed the stroller rides, times on the swing, and even just being in the Ergo on mommy as I walk around following Sean.

Stats:
  • Size 2 diaper, but ready to move up to a 3.  Just finishing the last of our stock of 2's.
  • Mostly 9 month clothes now, 6-12 months, 6-9 months, and a few random 12 month things that we're getting some use out of.
  • Bottle sizes this month have been way off since he was on an eating strike with his ear infections.  But, they ranged anywhere from 3-6 oz. at a time every 3-4 hours.
  • Still on 2 solid meals, but we're ready to bump things up to 3.  I just made some meat purees over break that we'll do for dinner, leaving fruits for breakfast and veggies for lunch.
  • He's all over the place with how often he'll wake up during the night, but he'll also throw in a random night with no wake-ups.  Those are welcome, anytime!
  • 2 or 3 naps, depending on the day.  He's started to take some longer naps anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.  This is getting better!
Favorites:
  • Putting anything and everything in his mouth.
  • Squeals and screams of delight in the Exersaucer or Jumperoo.
  • His new 3 piece wooden puzzle from his Easter basket.
  • Being held.
  • Sitting by himself and reaching for toys.
  • Watching Sean.  Seriously, he is mesmerized by Sean.
  • Stand up and hold on to things by himself.
  • The mesh feeder with yummy things like watermelon in it.

We are so glad he's feeling better and back to his cheerful self!  We were getting worried there.  Another month of exciting new things...since I'm a week behind with this post, I can say that we're already very close to crawling, getting new teeth, and he figured out how to pull himself to a standing position this weekend.  Whoa!  Slow down there, Ev!  You're getting so big so fast!
