Monday Musings

Welcome back, summer!  Not that I didn't mind the cooler weather, but it felt nice to be out in the hot sun again.  And my kids were relieved it was warm enough to go back in their pool.  Or Walled Lake.

A play date at a playground halfway between my house and a girlfriend's house suddenly became an impromptu beach trip to Walled Lake across the street.  Luckily I had a swim diaper in the car and a picnic blanket and that was all we needed!  Too bad I was in jean capris or I might have enjoyed cooling off in the water too.  A plan is set to meet next Monday again.  This time prepared with bathing suits, towels, and sand toys.

Last week I wrapped up summer school and we tried to go with the flow when Evan came down with an ear infection.  A doctor's appointment Tuesday, on their normal "school" day, meant that we just needed to reschedule our week.  The boys went to school on Wednesday instead and they stayed home Tuesday until we could Evan on an antibiotic.  His first ear infection since February; we aren't complaining!

Wednesday night Scott and I went out to Harry's for dinner before going to the Tiger's game.  The boys were so excited to spend the night with Nana and Pops and we were elated to get some alone time!

One 15-minute shower made for a beautiful rainbow to kick off the game!  Maybe it was their good luck charm, as they won 7-2.

After I officially finished summer school on Thursday, we planned an exciting Friday to celebrate!  Scott went golfing with his friend, Eric and I met up with Eric's wife, Amy and her daughter at Boogie Babies in Rochester for a play date and lunch at Max and Erma's!  Yum!

Scott picked up the boys after their nap at my parent's house and I stayed in Troy to meet up with my friends, Trisha and Lisa for a dinner out at Benihana's!  It was a rough day for my diet, but well worth it!

Saturday was a lazy day in Plymouth with the farmer's market in the morning, browsing through the sidewalk sales, and a trip to the park at their future elementary school.

Sunday we took the boys to the Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor to enjoy the warm, sunny weather!  We were on a hunt to find butterflies!

The boys enjoyed building a house out of wooden beams, throwing pebbles in the stream, and going for a walk through a nature trail.  I love this place!  The best part is...it's free!

As another week flew by, I'm constantly reminded that our summer vacation is coming to an end in a few short weeks.  We've decided that in August we're going to work on potty training Evan (early, I know!), in addition to helping Sean work on writing his name and riding his bike for 10 minutes each every day.  I'm envisioning making a chart for Sean to put star stickers on to remind him of things he should be doing each day like getting himself dressed, clearing his dishes from the table, writing his name once a day, and riding his bike.

Other things to look forward to this month include our Great Wolf Lodge overnight trip with my parents, a trip up north for the Ogemaw County Fair, another trip up north with my parents, two baby showers, one bridal shower, one birthday party, and a date night!  I guess it's that time of the summer where I'm on panic mode, planning every free day possible.  Soon we'll be too busy.
