Back in August, my best friend and I decided we wanted to do an overnight trip to a waterpark in Michigan. After looking over our calendars and discussing with the guys, we booked an overnight for last night at the Soaring Eagle Waterpark! Scott was adamant we pick one we haven't been to and it was an added bonus that they offered a free shuttle to the casino.
We left at noon, grabbed some Subway, and hit the road. It was exactly two hours from our house and just enough time for Evan to snooze in the car for a bit. We checked in with no problems and were surprised to find that our room was ready. So, we went in to our room and got ready to hit up the waterpark!
The room was nice. Very modern and the boys loved their Eagle's Nest (like the Wolf Den at Great Wolf Lodge).
The waterpark was nice! It's not as big as Great Wolf Lodge or even Zehnder's Splash Village, but it kept us all entertained and happy! The surf simulator wasn't working while we were there this weekend, but the boys weren't tall enough for it anyway. The two big water slides were only for people 48 inches or taller (and they were pretty intense!), so the boys were disappointed about that.
Our friends arrived 45 minutes after we did, so they met us in the waterpark and we let the kids play and swim until dinner time (which was also when we were turning into prunes).
The hotel was doing a "Harvest Fest" this weekend, which included painting pumpkins, making popcorn stuffed rubber gloves, and other arts and crafts for the kids. As we were heading back up to our room to get ready for dinner the boys insisted they stop and make popcorn gloves. I think they ended up eating more than they actually stuffed in their gloves!
Dinner was pretty good at the hotel restaurant. We received a voucher for a free large pizza for booking at an "early bird rate" so the kids enjoyed that, while the adults ordered off the menu. I went all out and splurged on a Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer and some nachos! Yum, yum, yum!
Of course Evan insisted we ride the motorcycle ride in the game room. He thought he was riding it...apparently, we don't even need to put in money. The kids were all content just sitting on the rides!
We went back up to our rooms for a pajama party and some adult beverages. The guys, Scott and MG, got ready to take the free shuttle to the casino. Trisha and I enjoyed just sitting around and talking while the kids watched cartoons and ate yummy treats!
Bedtime was a piece of cake. A piece of that cupcake all the kids were eating (and I might have had one too...)! I read the boys a couple of Halloween books, they went in their own bunk beds, and that was it! I didn't have to intervene at all! The nature sounds app on the iPad was a savior since we could hear people stomping around upstairs, but they were still able to go to sleep with no issues. And they slept in until 8am! Bonus!
Breakfast the following morning was brought from home. Cinnamon rolls, doughnut holes, apples, bananas, strawberries, and grapes! The boys each had a bowl of cereal too (they are obsessed). Our friends went home and we headed back to the waterpark for a few hours until check out.
And just like that, our weekend came to a close! We packed up the car, stopped at Bob Evan's for lunch, and hit the road once again. It was a great weekend spent with friends! While we enjoyed our stay at Soaring Eagle, I think we'll stick to Great Wolf Lodge or Splash Village.
