The last two weeks in June I got organized. And by organized I mean that I now create a weekly document in Google docs that includes what we're doing each day, 30 minutes of learning activities daily for the boys, and our dinner meal plans. It's the only way I can stay sane. We need to have a plan or we will drive each other nuts all day, every day.
Sometimes the daily 30 minutes are things found off Pinterest, other times it's just good old fashioned fun like sidewalk chalk and scavenger hunts at the park on Hines Drive.
The more we get moving and doing, the less likely the boys are to hit, pinch, or wrestle WWF style. The only downside to all this activity is that by 8pm when they're in bed, I feel like a train ran me over. No naps this summer is proving to be brutal on mommy.
We've had some beautiful weather this summer! Hot for sure, but definitely beautiful. So, I took the boys to the Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor and to the petting farm at Domino's one morning. We packed a picnic lunch and came home later in the afternoon.
Moments like these make it so worth my exhaustion at the end of the night!
The Botanical Garden is always stunning. The children's area is perfect for the boys to just explore and be imaginative. This year they were more into the inside section. The big fish are always a popular spot! The best part about this place is that it's free! Other than a small parking fee, it kept the boys entertained for over two hours.
While the farm is nice, they've really raised their prices. $21 got us in and 3 bags of food that went pretty quickly. We were there about an hour, maybe less. But, they always have a good time! Just not something we need to do more than once a summer.
It felt like an eternity, but Scott finally finished off his school year and joined us on summer vacation! And we hit the ground running once again. Trips to a public pool in Livonia, the library, and to see Finding Dory in the middle of a week day! So much fun!
Before our trip Up North, I met up with coworkers for our annual water park day at Red Oaks in Madison Heights. Considering we had no AC and it was in the 90's, this was a perfect day for me to escape with the boys!
And before we knew it, our AC was in the process of getting repaired just as we were getting ready to leave for 6 days Up North for the holiday weekend. June flew by! We made so many great memories at the start our of summer, but I'm really excited for July and August. A trip to Lake Michigan in less than two weeks, a mini trip to Mackinaw Island in August, and my trip to visit my brother and sister-in-law in Portland before the school year starts! It's always fun when we have lots of little things planned throughout the summer.
