Easter festivities
Happy Easter from the Ferstle clan!
With the late date this year, we lucked out with some beautiful weather all Easter weekend! We all enjoyed spending most of it outdoors. We were so grateful for only a four day work week after coming home from our trip. I was completely overwhelmed coming home in the evening and going to work and school the next day. We had laundry, bills, groceries, and cleaning the house to deal with. Luckily, I tackled most of the laundry Sunday evening when we got home and we had our groceries delivered late that evening from Shipt.
Good Friday was spent cleaning the house. Scott took the boys to go see Boss Baby, so I had a couple hour window to clean the house without anyone interrupting or messing it back up. The boys enjoyed the movie! We dyed eggs after dinner, which was pretty uneventful this year. We picked a basic kit and it went by pretty quick. The boys each wrote their name on an egg though with a white crayon before dying them.
Saturday was absolutely gorgeous outside! Scott wanted to clean out his garage, so I took the boys in the morning to the Plymouth Township Easter egg hunt over at Splash Park. We ran into some friends from Sean's Young 5's class last year and our neighbor, Nevaeh was there with her parents. It wasn't as crowded as last year, which was really nice. The boys got tons of eggs filled with candy, but neither of them got a special prize egg this year. They decided to play on the play structure for a while after the hunt.
The rest of the day was spent playing outside, helping Scott clean the garage, and getting ready for a BBQ dinner with my parents that evening and brunch on Easter morning with Scott's family. Both meals were being hosted at our house so there was quite a bit of work to do getting the house in shape both inside and outside and meal prep too.
My parents came over around 4pm and the boys were anxious to open their Easter presents/baskets from my parents. They dug right in!
Dinner was tasty! First official BBQ of the year, complete with deck furniture and a bonfire at the end of the evening. Scott probably let the boys stay up a bit too late playing with Jameson and roasting s'mores, but everyone survived.
The baskets were delivered from the bunny after the boys were in bed and the carrots were munched on. And this tired mama decided to stay up and watch Gone Girl off the DVR, even though I've already seen it. Not the best decision, but it was so relaxing watching a movie I was interested in...for once.
Easter morning came bright and early! The boys were up and ready to find their baskets! Sean's was hiding on top of the china cabinet and he had 3 eggs hiding all throughout the living room. Evan's basket was in the play room with his 3 eggs hidden throughout the play room as well. The big hits this year in the basket were the umbrellas (always!) and the lanterns for camping.
I made a batch of cinnamon rolls in the oven to munch on while we all got ready for church. Scott's family all met up with us at church and unfortunately, it was standing room only. The kids all found a nook in the back where they colored and drew pictures (5 kids under the age of 8...whew!). Then it was time for brunch back at our house. This year we opted to do build-your-own croissant sandwiches with scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, cheese, and chopped up veggies. We also had cheesy potatoes, french toast casserole, fruit, and pancakes for the kids. It all came together easily and quickly. We ate, played outside, did a mini easter egg hunt with Nana and Pops, and sat around talking for most the late morning/early afternoon.
We celebrated Nana's birthday with an ice cream cake after brunch since her birthday was the next day. The kids loved the ice cream cake and shared in singing and blowing out her candles!
We had a wonderful Easter weekend with both families and neighbors combined! It was definitely hard to go back to work last Monday after the warm weather and outdoor activities. But, only 8 more weeks of work to go until summer vacation! But, who's counting?!
