We came home from Baltimore and hit the ground running. Literally.
Grocery store, laundry, making list upon list of our summer to-do's and want-to-do's. Until we all collapsed mid-day and decided we needed a rest. That's what summer is all about, right? Rest and relaxation.
That lasted all of five minutes. And we were off again.
We've been to Music in the Park twice, both last week and today. Last week we made a picnic lunch, checked out new books at the library, and the boys got their first summer reading program prize before the music started at noon. This week, we also visited the library for their second prize and new books, but decided to grab Panera and met up with some a soccer friend and his family.
We went strawberry picking at Rowe's in Ypsilanti randomly one afternoon. It was so much more fun than the boys anticipated. We picked over four pounds of berries, which led me to make a strawberry pie and strawberry shortcake. Yum!
We saw Cars 3 and ate ourselves sick with popcorn, washing it down with Pizza Hut for a late lunch/early dinner. So worth the calories...!
We celebrated Father's Day...a little late since we were in Baltimore. Scott got to sleep in, have breakfast made for him, putt-putting, and we grilled sliders for dinner. It was a fun day!
Our niece, Adelaide, celebrated her 6th birthday at a park in her neighborhood. The kids had a blast with squirt guns, playing in the sand, and on the play structure. It was such a beautiful morning for the party!
The boys have really been enjoying just playing with the neighborhood kids. In fact, some days it seems like they are outside from sun up till sun down playing with them. They run from one house to the next, one backyard to the next, changing in to their bathing suit to swim in Jameson's pool or use the squirt guns/sprinklers/water balloons. These kids are having the time of their lives!
This week we decided to go to the Toledo Zoo to celebrate Father's Day with my dad. We also made the decision to get a membership there instead of the Detroit Zoo to change it up a bit. I'll admit that both me and the boys are pretty bored with the Detroit Zoo. It was a little bit more expensive at Toledo, but they have the aquarium that the boys love and a splash pad. Seemed worth it! We had a blast!
It's been a great start to our summer with some pretty mild temps. I'm hoping it will warm up to get some swimming and water activities in soon, especially with us going up north tomorrow evening! It hasn't been all running around and going out and about though. The boys have had activities to do each day. Sean has to read a book to us every day. If he reads 100 books by the end of the summer he will get a Lego set. Both boys have to do 15 minutes of a learning activity, whether it's a workbook page, writing, journaling, sight words, or math. Thank you Dollar Tree for the awesome workbooks we've been using so far!
We're starting to really get into our groove and the days are getting a little easier to manage. We leave tomorrow for the fourth of July up at the cottage and the weather forecast is a little depressing. I'm sure we'll still have a great time, all together! Slow down summer! I'm not ready for it to be July already...
