But, it hasn't been all work over the past week. We also crossed off some fun things like going to the Tiger's game when the park opens in the hopes of getting autographs during batting practice. It wasn't the most organized outing we've done. In fact, it was decided as we were driving to Detroit. But, we rolled with it and ended up getting JD Martinez' autograph just before the game started after standing by 3rd base for over an hour...
I'd say in the end it was worth it and was a success! I can honestly say I won't need to do that again for a long time though!
Another big accomplishment this summer? Getting the kids to eat Jimmy Johns! I'm so excited to have sub shops as an option now instead of fast food when we're in a hurry. Sean had a Slim Turkey sandwich and Evan had a Slim Salami sandwich and they both ate more than half of it. Win!
My favorite Plymouth activity rolled in to town last Friday, Art in the Park. My mom came out and we strolled through all the art vendors for a few hours after walking downtown. We stopped and had a beer and some appetizers at Box Bar before making the trek back to my house. It was fun! I bought a few hair accessories, a shirt for Sean, and a candle. Saturday I ran downtown with Evan in the jogging stroller/bike trailer to take him to it while Scott was running errands. And I'm proud to say I ran all the way back home too - 4 total miles! Evan and I celebrated by eating kettle corn and having some of that delicious fair lemonade. Since Sean was at my parent's house having a special weekend with them, we took him to the art fair on Sunday when he was back home. They painted a square like they do every year and looked for treasures.
I'm not going to lie. It hasn't been a bed of roses like these posts probably make it seem. It's been hard work getting to used to all being home together 24/7. The kids haven't been the best behaved either. By Sunday afternoon, after the art fair, I reached my limit. Thank goodness the boys have neighbors they can play with outside to get out of my hair for a bit. We finally blew up the inflatable pool to give our neighbors a break from entertaining us in their pool all summer. Scott worked on expanding the play structure so it could have monkey bars and rings, with a little help from Evan. Me? I did laundry and picked up the house...big break from the kids.
Monday brought a week full of rain so far! Lunch in a pillow fort while watching Duck Tales kicked off our week! We decided to use our skating coupons from the summer reading program and take the boys roller skating during open skate in the afternoon. It was fun! Sean can really cruise around the rink by himself and it's truly the first activity, other than Legos, where he wants to excel and get better without us on his case about it. I think he just didn't want the older boys to be faster than him. Evan, on the other hand, was struggling in his skates. It took a lot of upper body strength on my part and Scott's to help him get around, but he did great on the carpet by himself!
Tuesday I met a friend and her daughters at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. It was pretty packed with different day camps, but we made do. The kids had a great time and we brought bagged lunches to eat while we were there. It was nice to have some time to sit down and chat with my friend while the kids played (I'm finally getting to sit down during play dates!).
Wednesday brought more storms and so we stayed home and in our pajamas almost all day. Evan and I were baking up a storm ourselves. We made banana bread, cereal bars, and energy balls! I love that I have a baking buddy! The boys got new books and their reading prize for this week late afternoon before our roof estimate appointments started. I still can't believe we're finally getting a new roof...6 years later...
Today we had another lazy day at home playing. The boys were big into dress-up, Kwix Stix, riding bikes with Nevaeh outside, and playing in the basement. It was nice to stay home the past two days, but I'm itching to get out and do something tomorrow. A trip to Target in the morning sounds good to me!
Next week the boys will go to half day camp (Lego camp for Sean and Safety Town for Evan!)! Scott and I are looking forward to 3 hours each day in the morning to ourselves. Time to cross more things off our to-do list! Next up...refinishing the hard wood floors on the first floor. Whew!
