This year we got a later start heading up to Gladwin for the holiday weekend because of Evan's baseball camp that went through Friday. We opted to head up Saturday morning instead of dealing with the traffic Friday evening, but there was plenty of traffic Saturday too. It took us close to 3.5 hours to get up there. We got up around 2pm and immediately went out to the beach/water.
It was our night to make dinner for everyone. Thankfully we had gone to Costco Friday evening after Evan's baseball camp and picked up burgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, quinoa salad, and a vegetable tray to make for a super easy dinner. Pops grilled the meat and dinner was served! We took a boat ride after dinner to go swimming and cool off then it was time to get ready for a bonfire, s'mores, and the lake's firework show!
Sunday everyone stayed at the house instead of golfing like usual. We had a full day doing sand and water activities. We also celebrated AJ's birthday. It's always fun to see how the kids change from year to year and what their interests are up north. This year was lots of baseball (Evan), volleyball with the girls and Sean, corn hole games, and paddle boarding. Jackie and Josh did a bunch of homemade pizzas and salad for AJ's birthday dinner. We had brownies and ice cream for dessert and she opened her gifts. Then the adults had a euchre tournament while the kids watched Netflix upstairs. This year Pops was the big winner and I'm happy to report I did not come in last place.
Monday several people opted to go golf at Lakeside for 9 holes. Sean and Scott went along with Jackie, Josh, Sydney, AJ, Nana, and Pops. Evan and I stayed home with Matt, Mindy, and Luka. Evan and Matt took Luka for a stroller ride while Mindy and I worked out. I had some quiet reading time and before we knew it, everyone was back. The kids wanted to go tubing and go to one of the parks on the lake, so we did that and the kids had a great time! We had a late lunch/early dinner that Matt and Mindy cooked of "Matt's Marvelous Meat Sticks", potato salad, cheese bread and other yummy Serbian treats. Then, Jackie, Josh, Sydney and AJ had to pack up and head home. The rest of us took a boat ride and went fishing and on a nature cruise (we saw one deer and one turtle). Then the adults enjoyed euchre while the kids watched a movie.
It started raining Monday evening so there wasn't a bunch of fireworks to be able to watch. Tuesday we had a lazy morning. We decided to go to Clare for Cops and Doughnuts and to have lunch and some beer at Four Leaf Brewing Co. before we drove home. Cops and Doughnuts was a bit disappointing as most of the doughnuts we picked were dry and lacked flavor. Lunch was tasty though! And then it was time to hit the road and head home. Traffic wasn't too bad and we were happy to be home.
