Good Tidings from Huckleberry Railroad!

Is it just me or is Christmas sneaking up on us this year?

Don't get me wrong, we've been enjoying the season and partaking in many holiday traditions (pics to follow), but I looked at Sean's Advent Calendar yesterday and had a mini-panic attack!  I haven't watched my trifecta of Christmas movies yet (Elf, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and Love Actually)!  I haven't baked any Christmas cookies!  I'm not through with my shopping, let alone my wrapping.  I still want to take the boys to see the lights in Downtown Rochester.  Who am I kidding?  I want to see the lights!

Time needs to slow down!  Wouldn't it be nice if silly work wasn't in the way of doing all these things?  ;)

But, without work, we wouldn't have had this fabulous annual potluck lunch today.  Here was my contribution, a la Pinterest.

Hence, why I spent an hour this evening dancing it off at Werq, my newest obsession.  Brings me back to BC (Before Children) when Zumba occupied two nights each week.  Instead of latin music, it's all Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, and Iggy.  It's amazing and I feel amazing every time I go.  As the kids get older, I keep finding little pieces of my former self periodically. Losing the baby weight, getting back into dancing, going out with friends every so often, it all makes me start feeling good about myself again.  It's been too long.

In other news, and back to the original point of my post, despite how fast the season is flying by we've managed to capture quite a few memories this year!

Last weekend, we kicked off the first weekend in December by exposing the boys to the greatest Christmas movie ever: Home Alone.  Surprisingly enough, they were entertained through most of the movie and no one was scarred by inappropriate language or scary bad guys.

Saturday, my parents came over and we piled in the mini-van to drive to Flint for the Christmas Village and Huckleberry Railroad.  We stopped for an early dinner at a great restaurant called Redwood Steakhouse.  We wandered around the village and then boarded the Polar Express to see some Christmas lights.  It was a neat experience!  A little bit of a hike, but everyone had a good time!

This week, despite how busy we've been with work and Scott starting basketball season at school, we managed to build a gingerbread house with the boys and bake some salt dough ornaments all in one night!  The house was a complete disaster with frosting everywhere, flour all over the counters, toys strewn about, etc.  But, it's all in the Christmas spirit, right?

This weekend is about to be insane.  We are celebrating 1...2...3....4...5...people's birthdays and one cookie exchange.  Six dozen cookies, multiple gifts to wrap, Holiday lights at the Zoo, a bowling birthday party, and heading downtown to Plymouth for a night out with some friends, it's going to be a great weekend!

And, we have exactly one week until we have to make our Disney dining reservations!  I've been a busy bee reading every restaurant review under the sun, creating spreadsheets and documents to map it all out.  This is so exciting and we are getting so close to getting to share this excitement with the boys.  I can't wait for Christmas morning!  It's time to get the Disney planning DVD out to spark the idea in them...

Until then, I hope these next two weeks go by slowly so we have time to enjoy all the fun things we have planned.  And I'm hoping one of these evenings I'll have enough time to sit down and watch one of my holiday movies...
