On our last night at home our neighbor Tim helped us move the big pieces of furniture out that I couldn't help with. Earlier that day I packed for a whole week, including pool stuff and bikes. It was the block party down the street so we the boys watched a movie with Nevaeh before heading down for dinner. It was so cute seeing all the kids play together and I enjoyed catching up with neighbors we haven't talked to all summer and meeting some new families too.
Monday morning I had jury duty down in Detroit for the first time in my life. So, luckily my dad was nice enough to come pick up the boys, the dog, and all our stuff while Scott got started sanding with his dad. By the grace of God, I was dismissed from being a juror on a technicality...turns out I knew the defendant's cousin who I had last year as a student. Small world! I went to lunch in Greektown with a lady I met there and headed out to Troy. The boys were insistent on going to Somerset to the Disney and Lego Store. While I had plans to do that another day so we could get Chick-Fil-A, I let it go and went with the flow. We grilled burgers for dinner and headed over to the mall. Evan picked out a Lego Ninjago foam sword and Sean got a small Ninjago Lego set with his own money.
Tuesday, Sean had a special day with Nana so I took Evan birthday shopping. He showed me all the things he wanted from Target and ToysRUs and I took pictures with my phone so I could buy them at a later date. We got Sean's Halloween costume on clearance at Target while we were out. After lunch at the house, my dad and I walked to the park while Evan rode his bike. We played disc golf for a bit, let Evan swing on the swings, and walked by the ponds collecting flowers for Grandma.
Unfortunately, Evan had his last t-ball game Tuesday night. As much as I didn't want to drive back to Plymouth, I knew I needed to since he would be getting a medal. I picked up Sean and Nana and headed out to the game. Evan refused to play for the first half inning, but Nana helped talk him into it. By this point, my sinus infection that started on Monday after Jury Duty was in full swing. I was exhausted and very congested. I was about to be incredibly disappointed if he didn't play after all that driving. Thank God he found his courage!
We stopped by the house to see the floors and they looked great already (post to come soon!)! We gave Scott big hugs and kisses since we knew we wouldn't see him until at least Sunday and drove back to Troy pretty late.
Wednesday, my dad and I took the boys to the Troy Aquatic Center, a true staple to any summer. I love that place and have such great memories going there in middle and high school! The boys were big fish, refusing to wear their life jackets and swimming in the deep end. They're getting so brave and independent in the water! Sean went down the big water slide, but Evan refused even though he was tall enough.
That evening we had a really fun play date at my best friend's house, who coincidentally lives in the same neighborhood as my parents. The kids got to play on their inflatable water slide and then we ordered pizza for dinner. The kids watched the movie Storks on Netflix while we sat on her deck drinking wine and catching up. It was so much fun!
Thursday morning I met up with my co-worker, Erin, and her family at the Lego Discovery Center at Great Lakes Crossing. For the month of August they were letting educators in for free and offering $10 tickets for their family members. For $20, me and the boys got to play for four hours! We rode the rides several times, built a fish in a workshop, had a blast at the Ninjago Training Camp, watched the new Lego 4D Movie with Emmett and all the other characters, and played on the play structure. We even had lunch there and got cute Lego plastic boxes as a part of the lunch. The food was...pretty gross, but it was one of those live and learn experiences. Never again will we eat there.
Friday morning I was off to my foot doctor appointment to finally have my right ankle looked at. It had been bothering me for almost three weeks at that point and something had to give. The doctor determined it had something to do with my high arches, bad running shoes, and the way my foot rolls out while I run. I have to wear the boot for a month, do PT for a month, and then I should be good to go.
Knowing I needed to get the boys out of the house and give my parents some space, I took the boys to a park in Troy to play for a while and then did some shopping at the resale shop. Nike zip-up coats, athletic pants, and a Puma long sleeve shirt for Sean and I felt like I hit the jackpot! That is until Evan needed to poop...while at the park...
That evening we went out to dinner at CK Diggs during an absolute monsoon outside and then went to see the Emoji movie at the Emagine Rochester. It was a cute movie!
Saturday morning I met up with another friend, who's parents live in the same sub as mine and someone I've been really close with since elementary school, at a different park for another play date. It was so much fun that we decided to go to Kerby's and grab lunch!
That afternoon, Rochester was celebrating their bicentennial by having a festival in their municipal park downtown. We ran a few quick errands on my behalf (make-up, shoes for Evan, and the resale shop to make a return) and then went over to check it out. A petting zoo, touch-a-truck, live music, and freebies sounded perfect! And then it absolutely poured. So, we waited it out and we were able to visit with the animals after the rain.
An ice cream stop and then we were on our way back to their house to put Sean's tooth under his pillow for the tooth fairy (his top right tooth fell out that morning while in the hot tub after a gentle pull).
Sunday morning it was time to get out of my parent's hair! Scott and I made the decision to go up north for another week to give the floors more time to dry and cure. We had already planned on going up that Friday for the County Fair, so we figured a few extra days at the lake house wouldn't hurt. My parents gave us the royal treatment leaving: a car wash and vacuum, laundry done and drying, and they helped pack up my car. And we were off! We are so incredibly grateful and thankful for my parents' hospitality all week. I know having all of us at their house probably was a big adjustment, but it's nice to know we always have somewhere to go when we're in need. Thanks, Mom and Dad! XOXO
