My handsome, Lego Ninjago obsessed, guy is 7 as of yesterday! Seems hard to believe that 7 years have gone by! Look how much he's grown!
I wasn't up for doing a big birthday party this year, so he celebrated his birthday a week early with two friends from school for his birthday party. With the Lego Ninjago movie coming out that weekend, it made sense to take the boys to see it with Sean's friends, Kidanny and Corey. Then the boys came over to our house after to do presents and to have pizza and cupcakes. It was a really fun morning! Sean's friends spoiled him with Lego sets, minifigure blind bags, and a Ninjago long-sleeved shirt! What a lucky guy!
This weekend was full of celebrations too! Saturday, after soccer games in the morning, we drove out to Troy to celebrate my mom's birthday, Sean's birthday, and mine. We hung out at their house, opened presents, took a dip in the hot tub, and went to the Alibi for pizza and salad. It was a nice afternoon!
Sunday was Sean's actual birthday and we had a busy day! He wanted an egg mcmuffin from McDonald's for breakfast and then we hit the road to the Toledo Zoo. He wanted to see the sharks at the aquarium! Scott's family met us there so there were 11 of us touring the zoo together. The weather was perfect, there was hardly anyone there at opening, and Sean had a blast!
Everyone came back to our house for a late lunch and some cake and pie. The cousins enjoyed the bounce house and building Legos all afternoon while the guys watched the Lion's game. It was a nice afternoon!
Sunday night was extra special for Sean as he lost another tooth just before bed, on his birthday! The tooth fairy paid a visit and left him some money. I'm pretty confident he had an amazing birthday weekend with lots of family!
Speaking of teeth, Sean has now lost 6 total teeth over the past year and a half. He's lost four within the past few months so the tooth fairy has been very busy visiting our house! Developmentally, Sean is right on target in all areas. We'll have an official height and weight after his well-visit next week, b but if I had to guess he's measuring in around 48" tall and 46 lbs. He's moving into size 7 clothes, although some 6's still fit in the pants. Lots of brands make a 6/7 size that seems to work well for him right now. He's wearing a size 13 shoes and is working hard on learning how to tie his shoe laces, but we're not quite there yet! Those darn loops and pulling them through are pretty tricky!
He's still reading mostly Level 1 books, although I'd be curious to see how he tests for his DRA level. At the end of Kindergarten in June, he was reading level D and E on an app at home. With a little assistance this summer, he's been reading levels F-J. He brings home weekly spelling words and sight words this year for homework several nights a week and seems to do really well with spelling. Hopefully strengthening his spelling and sounds of letters will help his reading progress. He also has math homework four nights a week. Math is definitely not his favorite subject! But, he can manage.
Right now, he's riding his two wheel bike like a pro, skating independently on roller blades, doing front flips on the trampoline and bounce house, can swim independently, and is up for most challenges when it comes to physical activities. He's playing fall soccer in the U8 division and we plan to put back in swim when soccer is over, in addition to piano lessons. He's one busy kid! He also attends Catechism on Monday evenings at our church.
We're very proud of Sean's accomplishments over the past year! He's off to an amazing start at school this year and seems to be helpful at home most of the time. Time is going by so fast now! I look at him and see a big kid! And one that we love more than he'll ever know.
Happy 7th birthday, Sean!
