We made the most of our two weeks off for the holidays! My goal was to use up some of our gift cards that the kids have received for birthdays and Christmas. We were able to go to quite a few places. The crowds weren't too bad at most of the places we went to, but by the end of break I was getting tired of running around and dealing with other people's kids. Before we knew it, break was over and it was time to head back to work. But, we had a great vacation home together!
After Christmas, we spent a day or two at home playing with new toys, building legos, reading, and enjoying the unusually warm weather with a trip to the park.
Evan had a bowling play date with some kids from his Kindergarten class and he was ecstatic that this play date was for him and his friends! Sean tagged along and the kids did great bowling.
Evan also chose to cash in on his gift card to Zap Zone from his birthday and play some video games. Sean tagged along and wanted to do glow-golf with Scott. So, we split up and added our tickets together at the end to get some sweet prizes (not!).
Sean used his gift card to Defy from Christmas to check out this awesome indoor play place! Holy cow did those blow Airtime out of the water! We met up with my friend, Trisha, and her kids for a play date.
Another pick by Sean was going to the Lego Discovery Center out at Great Lakes Crossing with his gift card from his birthday. I took the boys by myself and let Scott sit it out. It was actually really fun! The place was decked out in holiday Legos and the boys loved the new additions to the Miniland. Sean bought something in the gift shop with some Christmas money and we picked out new gym shoes for the boys before leaving the mall.
I signed the boys up to do an art camp at a place nearby that was from 9am-noon one day. They had a great time and there were only two other kids in the camp! So, they had lots of individual attention and they made some masterpieces!
We also took a family trip to the Henry Ford Museum that was Scott's pick. The kids made play-dough there, ran around through the exhibits and spent plenty of time making paper airplanes and testing them out. Afterwards, we made a pit stop at Ford's Garage for some appetizers. It wasn't busy at all going on a random week day in the middle of the day. What a cool place!
Even though the weather wasn't ideal when thinking about winter sports, Evan and I had some a fun morning together skiing at Alpine Valley. It was seriously almost 50 degrees and the place was almost empty! We had a great time and he's doing so awesome this year!
We had a few fun outings away from the kids over break too! I had a girl's night with Ashley and Stacey with dinner at Las Palapas and drinks at Barrio. Maybe a few too many drinks...
We brewed wine with my parents at Vintner's, which was a joint gift to my mom for her birthday. We did the wine tasting back in November where they selected the wine and it was time to actually make it. There wasn't too much for me and Scott to do, but we enjoyed seeing how it was made.
My mom took me out the last Friday of break to The Whitney for dinner (yum!) and to see Aladdin. It was such a fun night. She went on the Qline for the first time too.
Unfortunately, I came down with a stomach bug the last day of break and had to take Monday off. It wasn't the best ending to a great two weeks home, but at least it was gone in 24 hours and didn't impact Christmas or New Years. We're back at work and school and getting back into the routine. I'm counting down the days until we're on break again together!
