Sean's broken arm
On the first week of summer vacation, Sean fell riding his scooter in the street by riding over a stick and losing his balance. He fell on the front of his left forearm. He cried for less than a minute and we assumed it was because he got a scrape on his arm that was bleeding. I cleaned it up with neosporin and bandaid and told him to come in and lay low for a bit while watching a movie.
He just didn't seem himself though the rest of the evening. He was almost lethargic and we just chalked that up to him getting some Tylenol because he said his arm hurt.
The next morning it still didn't look right. It was swollen and seemed bent to me. I decided to let him skip swim and took him to urgent care. After x-rays they confirmed that he broke both bones in his arm and would need a cast. They wrapped it up in a splint and ace bandage until we could get into the orthopedist later in the day. Luckily, the orthopedist we called was able to get us in that day since we were leaving for camping the next day.
The orthopedist was very quick with everything. They did another set of x-rays zooming in to the broken bones and put a light blue cast on his arm. He had to wear it for four weeks and avoid most fun activities (bike riding, scooter, swimming, and the trampoline).
Thankfully, I found a waterproof sleeve on Amazon that saved our lives and made showers and being around water possible. To say he was happy about it was an understatement.
Four weeks later the cast came off and a brace came on! At least it's removable for showers and we took him to the pool and let him swim and get it wet since he's been missing out.
He'll have the brace on for 3 more weeks to which we can then start to experiment and remove it to see how he does. Then, his follow-up appointment is in 8 weeks. Whew! Quite the process for a small scooter accident. We'll all be glad to put this behind us.
