Coronavirus Quarantine Week 1

Word about the Coronavirus affecting China and Italy was circulating since December in the news.  By February, it had hit the states, starting in Washington.  It wasn't long before conversations at work during lunch were about the virus spreading in the United States and how that would affect us here in Michigan and our ability to teach.  On Friday, March 13th most schools had made plans to shut down for 3 weeks.  Scott reported to work that day for staff only, I was off completely, and the boys had their last day of school to collect their work and Sean's Chromebook.  And then our 3 week + quarantine began at home...

The boys were supposed to have a game night at their school, so they moved it to Kahoot for us to play at home.  This was one small way to stay connected with their school over the next few weeks.  Over the first weekend at home we stocked up on supplies at Home Depot to do our home projects, we stocked up on groceries, and we worked to create a new routine.

Monday came fast and we were ready to roll out our homeschooling schedule.  We had Nevaeh for part of Monday and she helped us get adjusted to morning school work, creative time, a morning walk, lunch, chores, and afternoon school work on tablets/Chromebooks.  The boys did great and we hit the road running the rest of the week.

Thursday night Scott and I decided to have a "date night" at home.  After the boys went to bed, we played Rummikub with drinks.  I'm hoping this becomes a standing tradition while we're home.  Maybe this week we'll try Monopoly.

By Friday, we were ready for a change of pace with the routine and decided to do a "Field Trip Friday".  We went to Maybury State Park in the morning before the wind moved in and it cooled off.  It was gloomy, but we made it work.  The boys journaled about their five senses while at the park, they collected treasures for our "museum", and they played in tree forts.

I grabbed a carryout for lunch for the first time in 9 days.  Evan had a pizza from Bigalora and Sean and I had meals from Ironwood.  We did some STEM activities in the afternoon and enjoyed the rest of our Friday to complete our first week at home together.  We had a good week!  Our spirits were high leading into the weekend.  Scott was busy working on converting the playroom into a big kid playroom.  The boys accomplished a good amount of school work and did some fun activities too!  It left me feeling positive that we can get through this...
