I mean, he's practically a grown man. I'm buying adult size clothes for him, his feet are bigger than mine, and he's taller than me now. I say this every year on every birthday, but how is he 14?!
We celebrated his birthday a few days early with my side of the family. We went to the Oktoberfest at Drafting Table for a little bit. We all enjoyed Jets pizza there. Then we went back to my mom and dad's house for cake, ice cream, and presents. It was a nice day. Sean got a metal detector from my parents as his big gift and a Nike hoodie from my brother and sister-in-law.
On his actual birthday, he had school. But, I got up and made him birthday french toast and he opened some baseball cards to start his day. We let him skip football practice so we could go out to dinner. He picked Los Tres Amigos. We came back to the house to open gifts and watch the end of the Tigers game. He wanted to go to the trading card store and to Michael's (to get a Spooky Town item for our collection) so we ran those errands. Then it was home for brownie sundaes (he helped me make homemade brownies that were soooo good the night before). I'd say he had a good day!
We celebrated with Scott's side of the family this past weekend. We started a tradition last year to do a pumpkin carving birthday party and it was so much fun. We got Los Tres Amigos catered in, had Nana's famous ice cream cake (and an apple pie I made for myself), and carved pumpkins. Sean got some gift cards and some accessories for his metal detector.
At 14, Sean is wearing anywhere from Adult small - Adult large in clothes. He's in a size 9.5-10 shoe. He weighed 130 lbs the last time he went to the pediatrician over the summer for his sports physical and he's over 5'7" since that's how tall I am and he's just over my height. He's an eating and snacking machine. Could be from all the physical activity he's been getting from football this fall or it could just be his age/hormones. But, whew! He's eating us out of house and home!
He just did his first season of tackle football and did really well! Considering it was quite the time commitment, there was minimal complaining. He also did his last season of flag football so he could play on a team with Evan. That means he had football 7 days a week! He's gearing up for the wrestling season and should be in good shape for that! He's done with music this year so no more band and percussion, but he still plays his drum kit at home for fun. He's in Spanish 2 this year and his 8th grade class just got back from Washington DC. Life is good in Sean's world!
Happy, happy 14th birthday to Sean! We love you, buddy!
