September catch-up 2024

Whew!  It's the last day in September and it's been a crazy month with back to school, fall sports, and birthdays.  October will probably be even crazier.  We are trying to buckle up and enjoy the ride, but it can be stressful and overwhelming some days.  

Evan has been busy with fall rec baseball.  He's back with his usual team for that, but this year they decided to be the Rangers.  They are currently undefeated with 3 regular season games left before playoffs start and we are banking on them going to the championship game.  It's been so fun to watch him regain some confidence after another travel season and he got a new bat for his birthday and has hit 2 in-park home runs so far this season!  I'd say he's having a great season!

Sean has kept busy with the West Catholic football team.  He's getting a real taste of what high school football is like with the commitment and the physicality of it.  They practice 5 days a week and have a game on Saturdays.  They are 4-1 this season so far and have clinched a spot in the playoffs.  They're hoping to make it to Ford Field for the championship game, but it will be a tough one.  He's been playing defensive tackle, a little bit of offensive tackle, and nose guard.  But, he's second string since he's new and doesn't get a ton of playing time during the games.  We've told him to consider this a learning year.

In case that wasn't enough, both boys are playing flag football on a team together on Sundays with Scott as the coach.  Evan's best friend, Ethan, and his brother Sean's age, Logan, are playing with them.  I hate flag football (just the way the league is run and the rules) and I'm sort of regretting our decision to do this, but we are committed.  

When we've had a moment to breathe, we've tried to fit in some fun fall activities.  We went to the Plymouth Fall Festival the Friday night it opened.  I played bingo, Evan rode rides with his friend, Patrick, and Sean walked around with his friends, Charlie and Colin.  

Scott and I both recovered from heavy colds, on different weeks.  We both had to take a sick day, but luckily the boys didn't get our germs.

We went to a few breweries after some of Sean's football games to use our Hops Passport and to grab dinner.

I baked pumpkin donuts with a maple sugar glaze.  They were delicious!

We watched the Tiger's game on the big screen in our backyard with a fire.  It was the first one all summer for us and it was a great night for it!

Evan got his trumpet for band class and it's been fun and loud hearing him try it out.

We went to Blake's out in South Lyon to pick apples on a nice cloudy Sunday.  We got the last bit of Honeycrisp and enjoyed some cider and donuts.  It was a fun morning!

The sunsets have been amazing while waiting to pick up Sean from football.  

We went to one of the last Tiger's home games of the regular season and they actually won and clinched their spot as the wild card in the playoffs!  It was a sold out crowd with standing room only tickets for sale too.  Despite the amount of people downtown, it was smooth getting there and getting home.  It was so cool to witness that!

We also celebrated my mom's birthday, Sean's birthday and mine with my parents by going to Oktoberfest at Drafting Table out in Wixom.  We went after Sean's football game and had some beer, pizza, and pretzels.  Then we went back to my parents' house for cake and presents.  It was fun!  I had ordered shirts for each of the adults to wear at the bar.  

Tomorrow's Sean's birthday, the start of October, and the continuation of chaos for us.  But, I'm excited!  I love October!
