We've resorted to either leaving the house and seeking AC elsewhere or living outside running through the sprinklers or playing in the inflatable pool. I'm so glad we upgraded last summer to a giant one so that I can fit in too.
The library was our home for an hour or two this afternoon. Plus, we got our summer reading goodies to kick that off!
Enough complaining about the heat. It's the SUMMER! We are off for the next 10 weeks together! I will suck it up as I sweat typing this blog post tonight just knowing that I can go to bed late reading my book because there's no alarm clock going off in the morning. Just two little boys anxious to start their day...that's my summer alarm clock.
So, we play on Snapchat in our PJ's in bed until we feel like going downstairs for breakfast.
I started our first day off last Friday with a trip to the zoo and the music in the park in the evening. The zoo was a blast! Great weather, fun exhibits, ice cream, and a ride on the carousel. I was pulling out all the big bucks for our first day off together!
That evening, after BBQ'ing some dinner at home, we headed downtown for music in the park. I saw the line-up hanging up on our cork board and I love the band that was playing that night. Bonus! We set up our chairs at 12:30 that afternoon to get a decent spot in the shade. Good thing we did. The place was packed. Not a single spot for a chair or blanket. People were sitting on the fountain to see the band play.
Saturday, we went to Detroit for the Science Center, the Riverwalk, and dinner at Atwater Brewery. It was a beautiful afternoon! Very, very hot. But, beautiful.
Atwater has some mighty delicious food and brews. The kids love playing the board games and we don't have to worry about how loud they are. It's perfect.
Sunday we let Scott sleep in for Father's Day. Sean wrote out an itinerary for Scott when he woke up. It included breakfast, putting together a time capsule to plant in the yard, and going to see Angry Birds.
The movie was a little slow at the beginning, but got much better once the "pigs" arrived. Man, there was one part where I was laughing so hard I cried. And, the voice of Olaf was the voice of one of the birds, Chuck. He was awesome!
After the movie, we drove to Troy to have a BBQ with my parents. The boys swam in the hot tub and played while we grilled shish-ka-bobs and had pie for dessert. Yum! Back to Weight Watchers today...
Today really felt like our first official day of summer vacation with the start of a new week. I spent some time this weekend "lesson planning" for the week so the boys wouldn't be bored and so they would keep up with their learning this summer at home. I might have had too much fun with my laminater.
It takes a little bit of work to get everything ready for the week, but it paid off today as I watched the boys enjoy their "30 minutes with Mama". Fly swatter and white boards were in the rotation today. Play doh subtraction for Sean and play doh faces for Evan are up tomorrow!
Hopefully I can keep the momentum going with the learning games and activities this summer. And in the mean time, we'll make time for bike rides, trips to the park, watching movies, reading books, and going on adventures.
Summer is off to a great start! Now if we can just get our AC fixed...
