Our own Zootopia

Last weekend was Sean's school's spring carnival.  Considering this was our first time and we were rookies, we pre-bought wrist-bands, dunk tank tickets, and a large pizza.  We showed up at 5:30pm when it started and we were ready to see it all and do it all!

The school and PTO did such a great job putting this event together for the kids!  Snow-cones, raffle baskets from each classroom (I made the one for Young 5's), teachers getting dunked in the dunk tank, inflatables, and games galore!  We enjoyed our Friday evening, despite the heat.

This year came with a learning curve for all of us.  A few things I learned about the carnival...kids should wear socks for some of the inflatables and we should steer clear of the game where kids win a goldfish.

We don't do anything halfway in our house.  There's no way I was going to buy a $15 glass bowl at Petsmart, when I could get a 5.5 gallon tank with a filter and LED lighting for $25.  Add the rocks, the food, and some tank decor, and there went $60.

Poor little fellow, affectionately named "Goldie" only lasted 12 hours in the this beautiful set-up before he went to "fishie heaven".  Lesson learned.  Carnival fish are never healthy.  So, we went back to Petsmart and upgraded to a Betta fish named R2D2.  He's made it 5 days in our house, so my fingers are crossed he's in it for the long haul with us.

Since we're in an animal-loving mood, what better time to take a trip to the Detroit Zoo to finally check out the new penguin exhibit.  We met up with some friends that just got a new membership for the first time and made a morning out of it.

The penguin exhibit was beautiful!  I'm looking forward to going back on a random summer day in the hopes that it will be less crowded, but it was still really impressive.

Lots of animals out and about that morning made for some fun shots on my camera.

Just after leaving the gorilla exhibit, we noticed dark clouds rolling in and made a wise decision to head to the African Train Station to hide under the coverings.  It was a good thing we did!  Man, did it pour for a solid 10 minutes.

The rain cleared up and we worked our way back through the giraffes, bears, and wolves before grabbing lunch on our way out.  It was a fun trip to the zoo and it made me excited for all our summer outings and adventures that will be starting very soon!  End of next week soon!

And as always, the end of the school year comes charging in with us feeling totally overwhelmed and over scheduled.  The end of spring soccer, the start of summer t-ball, Sean's field day and class party, catching up on yard work since we were out of town Memorial weekend, and work parties.  Gahhh!!  Fun times, but too much in one week!

I came home from work today on another hot day, blew up the pool, and decided we were all going to relax.  Tonight was just what we needed after a busy week and the last full week of school!

Four days of school next week and lazy pool days and evening bike rides will be our norm.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
