I was honestly shocked when Sean picked Scooby Doo over Legos or Star Wars as a theme for his 6th birthday party! But, it almost seemed easier. He decided he wanted to invite his entire Kindergarten class and a few friends from his class last year. I assumed that if we invited close to 30 people, half would come. Whoa was I wrong! We had 21 kids at the party!
I reached my limit of having birthday parties at our house after Evan's Peter Pan party back in late August. Just the set-up and clean-up alone was stressful. Not to mention all the food planning and drinks. The bowling alley was sooo incredibly easy! $12 per kid included pizza, drinks, bowling for an hour, and a free pass to bowl again soon. The party room was set up when we came in with all the paper products. We only needed to bring room decor, favors, cupcakes, and any additional food (fruits and veggies).
It seemed strange to be out and about all morning doing things not related to the party. In fact, we went to the pediatrician, Sean had a soccer game, Sean watched a house get torn down in downtown Plymouth, and we even went to the library for the Star Wars event. We rolled up to the party 30 minutes before it started and things were ready to go!
His friends started arriving right at 3pm when the party started and the bowling began! Some lanes stuck to the order of the names and took turns in the right order, others just bowled when they could.
But, it looked like everyone was having a great time!
After the hour of bowling was up, the kids went in the party room for pizza, fruit, and veggies. It was definitely crowded in that room with that many kids and their parents. The food was good, but we over estimated how much pizza we would need. They included four pizzas in the price and we chose to order three more so the adults could eat. Yeah...we came home with four full pizzas. They are all bagged up and ready to be put in the freezer. We'll be eating pizza for the rest of this year lol.
Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Sean, watched him open his gifts (which they were all so eager and excited to give to him), and then said goodbye as they picked up their favors on the way out. I decided to give out a Level 2 Scooby Doo book with "Scooby Snacks" and their free bowling pass. Better than trinkets in my opinion, right?!
Sean had a great time and I'm breathing a sigh of relief thinking we survived a party with 21 Kindergarteners! We will definitely be having all birthday parties out of the house from here on out! What a breeze!
As the "birthday season" in our household comes to a close after this party, I'm looking forward to the holiday season. We started our Halloween festivities this weekend (post to come soon) and it's not too soon to be thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. Given how fast time seems to be going by, the holidays will be here before we know it! Happy 6th birthday, Sean! xoxo
