It's finally fall!

Considering how long our Indian Summer seemed to last, I think it's safe to say fall is here.  Finally.

The colors are alive, the air is crisp and cool, and we are less than a week away from Halloween.  Not sure how September and October have flown by so fast, but I'm starting to get those "holiday" tinglings of excitement.  Two months until Christmas!

Alright, I'll slow down and enjoy the season.  After all, we really enjoyed September and October when we weren't busy celebrating all the birthdays.

The Fire Station Open House was a hit, as always!  The helicopter from U of M flew in for a visit and the boys enjoyed their free lunch after "putting out a fire" behind the station.  Me and Scott?  We enjoyed a growler of Oktoberfest from Rochester Mills courtesy of my parents.  Now it really feels like fall!

Of course, it was time to get out all the decorations and costumes from over the years.  Bailey got a few new outfits after Halloween on clearance at Target last year.  I don't think she's as excited as the boys were to play with some masks and hats.

And with that started our first Halloween event of the season, Greenfield Village's Halloween.  I absolutely love this event!  They added a few new twists this year and took us on a slightly different route, but they did not disappoint.  Both kids left with bags of loot, full tummies, and lasting memories.  Their favorite part?  Seeing the carousel with the ghosts riding it and the headless horseman.  Mine?  The booth after the spooky bridge that sells hot chocolate with marshmallow vodka.  This year Detroit Donuts was there!  Yum!  Warm cinnamon sugar donuts, spiked hot cocoa, and old fashioned spooky cartoons.

The following week Evan's Pre-K class took his first field trip of the year to Plymouth Orchards where they picked out their own pumpkin, their own apple, ate some donuts, and went on a hayride.  Unfortunately, they didn't send the parents any pictures.  So, I snapped a few of Evan when I got home to remember the date.

Next up on the Halloween event calendar?  Sean's school's Pumpkin Fun Night!  We went last year when he was in Young 5's and it was a great night!  This year was even better, except for the fact that I had stayed home sick all day and was barely hanging on as we walked around.  They had a DJ in the cafeteria for a dance party, a photobooth, a spooky hallway, and tons of games set up in different rooms.

You can tell I wasn't feeling well by the cell phone pictures.  Normally I would have brought my DSLR.  Oh well, the boys still had fun!  Until the DJ played, "Let It Go".  Then Sean was mad and stomped off the dance floor...

Onto the Plymouth Pumpkin Palooza downtown this past Sunday afternoon!  We hit the weather jackpot.  It was gorgeous!  We showed up a few minutes before noon and hit up all the popular spots before it got too busy.  So many creative costumes this year!

Whew!  This week the boys both have a field trip.  Evan is trick-or-treating at a retirement home on Thursday and Sean is off to the pumpkin patch on Friday.  I wish I could go with the boys, but I know they'll have a great time with their classmates!  And for once, we have a pretty low-key weekend ahead of us.  The last soccer games of the season on Saturday are the only thing on our schedule.  The rest will be just that...rest!  Carving pumpkins, watching Halloween movies, drinking hot cider, and having a fire.  Sounds good!

I'll leave on this note...the Disney countdown has officially started!
