On the first weekend of December...

Well, we started December with a bang!  Some positive moments, some others we'd like to forget.  But, here we are counting down the days to Christmas and I'm trying to hang on for dear life.  Life has decided to throw some curve balls this week, that's for sure.

We started our weekend off with my Grandma's 92nd birthday!  Considering we had quite the scare last winter, I'm blessed to have spent Thanksgiving with her and to send gifts along with my parents to pass on to her for her birthday.  Hopefully, to many more birthdays!

Scott and I had a night out with tickets to the Mac Championship at Ford Field.  Both of Scott's sisters were going too, so it was a family night out.  The kids went to my in-laws for a sleepover with their cousins.  Bless my in-law's hearts for taking four kids 7 and younger.  I'm pleased to say Western was victorious and we had a great time in Detroit eating in Greektown and gambling a bit too!

We woke up Saturday morning and enjoyed breakfast out, just the two of us.  I had plans to clean the house and get laundry going, while Scott drove out to his parents' house to hang out with the kids until Zoo Lights later that evening.  Unfortunately, halfway through his drive there, we received a phone call from his mom that Sean ate a bite of a protein bar that had a tree nut in it and I mistakenly forgot to pack the Epi-Pen Jr.  Talk about a scary situation!  We were VERY lucky that he did not have an anaphylactic reaction, but he did throw up and complain about his stomach hurting.  I ended up ditching the chores and drove out to Troy with the Epi-Pen since there was a chance of a second reaction.  Luckily, we didn't need it.  But, the Benadryl he took really wiped him out.

We still decided to go to the Zoo Lights and dinner at Vinsetta Garage in Berkley with my parents to celebrate my Dad's birthday.  We just had some very sleepy kids.  Which, ended up working out just fine.  The food was great!  The wait was manageable with sleepy kids.

The Zoo Lights were great, as always.  There are always some small changes year to year.  We really enjoyed the ice rink by the new Polar Bear exhibit and the ice skaters were great!  The kids were warm, the wagon was helpful, and the amphibian exhibit was a hit!

As you can see above, we had Buster the Bear for the weekend from Kindergarten.  So, we had to bring him along everywhere we went and journal about it.  Sean was so excited!

Me and the boys spent the night at my parents' house since we had a birthday party in the morning in Troy.  We gave my Dad his birthday gift and watched part of Home Alone 2 on TV before bedtime.

Sunday morning we were off in our pajamas for a pajama and pancakes 5th birthday party in the same neighborhood as my parents' house.  This party was fantastic!  Such a great idea to have breakfast with the kids.  Rapunzel even showed up!  Evan was so excited since that's his favorite Disney princess.  And I'm not going to lie.  She's becoming my favorite too.  Sorry Ariel!

We stuck around Troy after the party and had some lunch over at Scott's parents' house before they all went to the Rochester Parade.  I opted to finally go home and resume my cleaning and laundry I tried to start before the big allergy scare.  I was able to clean, do laundry, unpack everyone's bags, and get things ready for the work week.  The boys looked like they had a great time at the parade with their cousins!  They came home utterly exhausted, but I know they had a great time!

We started our week off with a day home for me, Sean, and Evan.  I took Sean in to the pediatrician to listen to his cough and to get Evan his flu shot.  They got haircuts, had lunch at Panera, and we watched Christmas movies to relax and rest.  While it helped the boys get healthy, it set me back a bit at work.  Which was a hassle today when I threw in the towel and decided to leave early to go to urgent care.  Pink eye and a sinus infection later...we are off to a rough start this week.

I'm anxiously awaiting the weekend when we can be home with not too much planned.  Evan's Christmas concert Friday at 5pm and a cookie exchange Friday night and going to see the Hines Drive Lightfest with some friends on Saturday evening are the only things planned.  In the meantime, we will do our best to get rid of these germs!  Christmas break can't come soon enough!
