My true love gave to me, a snow day for all three! That's right. Tomorrow, all of us are home together to enjoy the new snow some more. We've stayed pretty cooped up all weekend though, so I worry we'll get cabin fever come tomorrow. Maybe the roads will be decent enough mid-day to go out and do something fun.
The time at home this weekend helped me feel more relaxed and ready for a full week of work compared to last weekend this time. We had a fairly busy week, so it felt good to just be home this weekend.
Wednesday night we had Sean's parent-teacher conference. He got a glowing review from his teacher, Mrs. Ropert! We are so proud of the progress he made from Young 5's to Kindergarten and she reinforced what we already knew, that he really benefited from having that extra year in Young 5's to mature a bit more. He's hardly getting in trouble at school and he's doing great in all academic areas. She just stressed that she's working on getting him to slow down on his work. I guess he wants to be the first done every time. Regardless, we're extremely proud of him and I loved seeing all the artwork they've been up to!
Thursday, I took Evan after dinner to downtown Plymouth for a Christmas event. We hadn't been in previous years so I wasn't sure what to expect, but we had a great time! The best part? It was free.
They had "stations" set up downtown with different things to see or do. Westborn Market offered a cookie decorating station inside and some beer samples. Yum! There were live reindeer, Santa walking around handing out candy canes, carolers, carriage rides, and hot chocolate at Sun and Snow. I was so impressed that Evan walked around, all bundled up, for a good hour without wanting to be carried. I think he's ready for Disney in April!
We went home in time for the kids to go to bed and me to bake 6 dozen cookies for an exchange party Friday night in Northville. I opted to make a new recipe for Gingerbread cookies that turned out amazing and a tried and true recipe called Mini Chocolate Chip Snowball cookies.
Friday Evan had his Pre-K Christmas concert at school. He doesn't normally attend on Fridays, so we brought him up there at 5pm for his concert. Nana and Pops joined us. Just as I predicted, he stood there with an angry look on his face not singing. At least he practiced and sang at home during the week to give a "sneak peak" at the songs. It was pretty humorous watching his many facial expressions though.
Despite what these pictures portray, he really does enjoy school and has friends. I guess singing and being on display isn't his thing. We can cross off being a rockstar off his future goals.
We grabbed dinner out, which was a bit of a fiasco. A very crabby, very hungry Sean made us work pretty hard to keep it together. And I found a sharp piece of metal on my chicken. Let's just say this restaurant doesn't pride itself on customer service. The manager never came to our table to talk about it and they still charged us for the chicken. We won't be visiting this particular Red Olive in the future.
After dinner I was off to my cookie exchange where I caught up with some old friends from high school and college. I also got to snuggle little babies, which of course helped scratch the baby fever itch. I'm good for a while now.
Saturday was a productive day at home, minus an errand or two. My amazing husband managed to fix our broken spring in our garage with a very inexpensive part. He cleaned the entire garade and side garage, put away the lawn furniture, and got the snow blower and salt ready for today. I went to a ski swap at 9am at Sun and Snow downtown and scored a pair of skis and boots for Sean and a pair of boots for Scott. Other than a helmet for Evan, we are all set for this season! And I'm hoping we'll be set for next season too.
Today was great! The kids were so excited to see the snow when they woke up. They chose a quick bowl of cereal so they could get in their snow gear and head outside. We made snow angels, helped shovel and clear the driveway, and went back in the woods to our favorite hill off Hines Drive for some sleeping. It was so much fun!
They went back outside for more fun with their neighbor, Jameson, after lunch. The rest of the day was a rotation of puzzles, board games, coloring books, workbooks, and movies. I better come up with some new material for tomorrow since we'll have another full day at home. But, I'm excited! I'm thinking a pancake breakfast, some gift wrapping, and maybe venturing out to see Moana...again. And sledding!
A good book and a Bacardi and Diet are calling my name. Happy first snow day of the school year!
