April randomness

I can't believe it's already May.  Not that I'm complaining considering there are only 6 weeks of work/school left.  But, seriously?!  April flew by!  And the weather in April was spectacular!  It's too bad May isn't following suit so far...

We spent as much time outside as we could possibly fit in.  The weather ranged, but there were many 70+ degree days with full sun.  Many weeknights were spent outside playing with the neighbors, riding bikes up and down the street, and doing some sidewalk chalk.  We are so blessed with our new neighbors.  Evan has a new best friend and it's been so fun watching them play together!

Soccer started right after we got back home from our Florida vacation.  Which of course means that Evan and I start back up our baking nights on practice nights.  Sometimes Evan wants to go to practice to play on the play structure if the weather is nice.  Other nights, we bake.

Sean's soccer season has been a bit rocky so far.  We had two kids injured and unable to play.  Unfortunately, they were some of our best players.  Despite that, the kids are enjoying playing and it's given some of the more timid players a chance to shine.  Including Sean!  He's had some great plays in his first two games!  We're very proud of him and we're confident that this will be a strong season for him.

The first game was quite pleasant as far as the weather goes.  The second game?  Not so much.  Cool and raining...yuck!  Evan got to try out his new umbrella from the Easter bunny though.

Sean went right from this game to his best friend, Preston's, 6th birthday party at the bowling alley!  What an exciting day for Sean!

Other highlights this month were our play date with Trisha and her kids at the Detroit Zoo.  Since we all spent the night in Troy so that Scott and I could go out for the Royal Oak Spring Beer Fest, I made plans to meet up with Trisha at the zoo the next morning.  The weather was great!  I didn't want to leave, but man was I tired from all that walking.

Other outdoor activities this month included cutting the grass for the first time (which of course meant they both got turns riding the tractor), doing fossil kits from the Easter bunny, a trip to the Dairy King before soccer practice to get some ice cream, and breakfast out on the patio at our favorite restaurant spot in Downtown Plymouth.

At school and work, the boys both have some end of the year events taking place!  I can't believe it, but Evan is getting ready to graduate from Tutor Time!  He got his graduation pictures taken and will have his ceremony the beginning of June.  I'm already getting choked up thinking about it...my baby.

Sean had another visit from Buster.  It was a weeknight, so Buster colored, practiced sight words, and played Hedbanz Disney version with us.  Sean wrote about it in his journal and sent him back to school the next day.  He also has Field Day coming up in two weeks, a field trip to the Real Life Farm in Canton the end of May, and another book fair this upcoming week at school.  My busy boy!

He also apparently writes me love letters at school...be still my heart...

My big news in April?  Well, I ran a 5k!  On my treadmill, but still that was a huge accomplishment for me!  I ran the whole thing straight through while cranking some Madonna music full blast in the basement.  I've been running since January and my goal is to do a 10k at Disney World in November of 2018 with my mom.  Girls trip!

I was also asked by one of my favorite students of all time to attend the Senior Honors Dinner with her the end of May.  I've said this before, but this is one of the highest honors for both the student and for me as the teacher.  She asked me in the cutest way too!!  She made a poster board and asked me to "Be her guest"...totally Disney!  We bond over Disney music and our Disney obsession so it was so perfect!

I also attended a pallet painting class with Scott's mom and his two sisters on a weeknight in April.  It was so much fun!  It was done inside a barn in Northville.  It was a different process than the last class I did.  We only had to paint the saying or quote onto the board, where as before I had to create the pallet, sand it, stain it, and then paint it.  Much better this time!

I wasn't the only one who enjoyed art in April.  It seemed like that was THE thing to do in our house last month!  The boys were constantly coloring and I have to say....it's about time!!!!  I'd always see my friends' daughters coloring happily when we'd go out to eat or play at their house, but never my boys.  It's so fun watching them do this together, happily!  We even decided to move some of our old office furniture into their playroom to create a better "coloring atmosphere".  They love it!

Lots of small changes happening in our home right now with decorating.  I'm suddenly motivated to re-do our office and give it some new furniture, a new rug, and some new artwork.  I'll post when it's finished, but lots of re-organization going on and I finally got around at the end of April to getting the boys' autographed pillow cases on their bed from our trip.  We're making progress each weekend on cleaning out closets and areas of the house, buying new furniture and decor, and I'm loving all the progress!  We'll need to do some trim painting throughout the first floor in June, but for now the re-organization and the new stuff is making me feel pretty good!
