May and all it's chaos

I love the month of May.  I really do.  We always have way too much going on and it typically causes me to have a meltdown at some point, but at least what we have on our calendar is fun!  Like the start of Plymouth's Farmer Markets downtown.  Man, was it cold the first Saturday in May, but we still bundled up and headed out for some muffins by the fountain.

We made a last minute decision that Saturday to go over to Ann Arbor for the Hands On Museum and some dinner at Pizza House on campus.  The museum was pretty crowded, but it's always a favorite for the boys.  They built towers out of foam blocks, sat in the ambulance, made bubbles, climbed the rock wall, and enjoyed the toddler room (probably for one of the last times since Evan will be 5 the end of the summer).  Pizza House was delicious, but pricey!  Dang!

Next on our agenda?  Haircuts and a soccer game.  Sean's soccer team has had it's ups and downs this season.  He took a turn playing goalie and did decent.  They've only won one game so far this season, but they're trying and learning every time.  Go Sharks!

Doesn't he look so sharp with his haircut?  Evan decided he wanted a faux-hawk and a buzzed part...whatever they call those. 4 going on...16??

Our weeks consist of swim practice, soccer practice, and time spent playing with the neighbors now that the weather is nicer.  Although, the weather has truly been all over the place this month.  Winter jackets one day...shorts and a tank top the next.  I'm not complaining.  It's just exhausting picking out clothes.  After school has us all like on Monday...

And like this by Thursday...

Speaking of riding bikes, it was the one thing I really wanted to do for Mother's Day.  We started this tradition two years ago and I was excited to continue on with it this year.  I don't know what we'll do should it ever rain on Mother's Day, but for now, I'm enjoying time outside with my little guys.  This year Evan rode the entire way downtown and back home (probably a total of 5 miles after all was said and done).  We grabbed dinner at The Box Bar out on the patio, went to the library for new books, and got some ice cream at Dairy King before riding home.  It was really nice!

The boys spoiled me with handmade gifts from school.  Evan brought home a bag full of surprises - his hand print to look like a tree, a seed in a little container that will grow into...something, some drawer sachets, and a card.  Sean did a little questionnaire about me and did some hand print art.  He also brought home flowers where he decorated the pot.  So cute!

They also bought me a hanging basket at the Farmer's Market downtown on Saturday.  Which, by the way, was much more pleasant since the weather was significantly warmer than the first weekend we went.  I ended up running downtown and the boys met up with me.  We got our muffins, some cheese popcorn, and the hanging basket.  It was so nice!

After the market, Sean had another soccer game that they won!  Yay!  We drove over to my parents' house to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom.  Her and I went dress shopping at Macy's for a wedding that we'll be going to in June in Baltimore and then we all went out to dinner at CK Diggs.  My aunt and uncle from Kalamazoo were in town visiting and joined us.  It was a really nice day!

I stayed home from work on Monday to be able to chaperone Sean's Field Day at school.  It was much earlier this year than last year.  I took him out to breakfast at Bode's by the train tracks for a special outing with mommy.  He enjoyed his chocolate chip pancake...yum!  I did the sack race as my station and he was one of the last classes to visit my station.  I think he thought I wasn't really there.  He had a bit of a struggle with the sack races, but I know he really enjoyed Field Day!

I pulled him out of school for the afternoon to be able to take him and Evan to Greenfield Village with my parents.  It was a gorgeous afternoon and the Village was so much fun!  There were so many baby lambs to see at the barn and the boys were loving the play ground and train ride.

The rest of this past week was spent with 90 degree temps and summer like activities after school.  The boys decided to wash all their working trucks and digging toys that had gotten very dirty over the winter/spring.  They even took the time to make a "Girls not allowed" sign for their play area...boys...

Last night, we ate dinner at Leo's quickly before heading down to Detroit to catch the Tiger's game with Scott's parents.  It was a little chilly and threatened to rain a few times, but we stayed warm and had a great time.  It was even Polish night, complete with Polish dancers and live bands performing throughout the park as we came in.  The boys had a ride on the carousel, filled up on popcorn and ice cream, and sang "Take me out to the ballgame" before we left.

This afternoon has been much slower for us.  The house needed to be cleaned, the boys did some garage sale shopping this morning (Sean even found a brand new Lego flashlight key chain with Kai for Ninjago for $.50!), and we're wrapping up our day with pizza and a movie.  We have four more weeks of school and work and then we're off for the summer!  It's almost here!  And we can tell.  The bushes are blooming, a Robin has a nest made with four eggs on our garage, and we have many end of the school year events coming up this week and next...
