The boys had a half day at school and their class parties/parades. While I wish I was able to attend, my mom and dad went and shared some pictures. They took the boys out of school a bit early after the parade and took them to McDonald's for lunch before coming to our house to play all afternoon.
While the boys were busy at their schools having fun, I took a group of 46 students to the DIA for their "Ofrendas" exhibit. Usually we take this field trip in February and look at Spanish art, but we tried to get in earlier this year to see their Day of the Dead exhibit and it was so worth it! There was also a Hip Hop Photography exhibit with Detroit artists that the kids loved.
After returning to school we had a quick staff meeting and we all made it out of there by 3:15pm. Unfortunately, walking out to the parking lot I noticed that my passenger front window had been smashed in and that the stereo/nav system was stolen. Apparently, this is an ongoing issue with Town and Countries since the nav is easy to pull out compared to other makes/models. Happy Halloween to me...
My amazing staff helped me tape up the window and clean out some glass to be able to get home. They stayed while the police officer came for me to file my report. I'm so grateful I work with incredibly kind and caring people! I got home an hour later than I wanted to on Halloween and had about 10 minutes to throw things together for Halloween dinner with Scott's family. My mom was nice enough to get the crockpot going for the spiked cider and threw my cornbread in the oven to go with the Chili. So, it wasn't too hard to get everything else ready.
Dinner was great! We had Chili and vegetarian Chili that my sister-in-law made, cornbread, salad that my mother-in-law brought, veggies and dip, pumpkin seeds, and fruit. The kids ate mac and cheese quickly before getting their costumes on and then we were all off!
The neighbors caught up with us when we came outside, so we had a little entourage walking around the neighborhood. The kids went out for over an hour and came home with big bags full of loot! I think them running from house to house kept them warm, so no one complained of being cold. The kids dumped all their candy out back at the house and the kids all watched some of The Nightmare Before Christmas on Netflix before it was time for family to head home and the boys to go to bed.
It was an eventful day and an exhausting one too! I took Wednesday off for a doctor's appointment in the morning and ended up having to deal with my minivan too. Calls to the insurance company, a trip to the body shop, and Scott and I went out to lunch at Chili's, did some Halloween shopping at Halloween City where everything was on clearance, and I came home to take a nap.
In case the minivan situation wasn't stressful enough this week, Sean ate a small piece of a Hershey bar that had almonds in it after dinner last night. We made a quick decision to be proactive and I gave him the epipen injection (with shaky hands) and we got the boys changed in pajamas to head off to Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. They have a strict 6 hour monitoring rule after an epipen is given, so we were in for a very long night. Sean was a trooper and never exhibited any symptoms, which means he either didn't have a reaction because the piece was small or that the epipen did it's job. We got home at 2am and I'm off today again, letting the boys play and rest at home.
My Spanish 3 field trip to Mexican Town was cancelled today with me being out and my co-worker who planned it home sick. I'm bummed, but it's not such a bad thing to spend a rainy day at home being lazy with the kids. Hopefully, our luck turns around this week...we sure had a lot of tricks this week and not many treats.
