Tombstone, AZ

A week ago Saturday, on our second full day in Arizona, we decided to head down to Tombstone for the day.  It's an old cowboy town that they've restored with cute shops, restaurants, gun fight re-enactments, and more.  The boys were very excited!  It was about an hour and a half in the car so after watching the sunrise, we went out to Oink for breakfast (seriously so delicious!), and hit the road.

It was pretty chilly in the morning so we definitely made sure to wear layers and even with the sun, it still ended up being cool out all day.  We arrived, parked, and strolled down the main drag watching some re-enactments.  We stumbled into a store with cowboy boots and belts and Evan fell in love with a belt that he had to have.  Unfortunately, it was a little small so we spent the next hour looking at other stores for the same one to no avail.  We ended up going back to the original store and adjusting it more to make it work.  We had two very happy boys with new belts and boots!

We popped into the Bird Cage Theater to look quickly, as it was a brothel back in the day.  Luckily, the boys had no clue as it wasn't blatantly obvious.  At that point we decided to take a break and grab a beer at the Tomstone Brewery.  The Brewery was real basic, but tasty!  The boys shared a Doc Holiday can of pop that tasted like Dr. Pepper.

After our quick stop for a beer we walked back down to the Good Enough Mine company to do a guided tour down into a silver mine from the 1880's.  The boys did panning for gold while they waited for our group to start and we got to wear some fun hard hats.  The tour was nice and very informative, but it was quite different from our Colossal Cave tour from last year as there wasn't as much to actually see down in the mine.  We can check that off our bucket list!

The mine tour was about an hour and we had skipped lunch after our big breakfast at Oink so I treated everyone to a late afternoon snack of ice cream and cookies at an ice cream shop on the main street.  It was tasty!  We decided to head out and back to Tucson to do an early dinner at Poco and Mom's (a tex-mex restaurant).  Driving back we had to go through a border stopping point, which was kind of crazy!  I guess we were only about 30 minutes away from Nogales.

After dinner, the kids and my mom went back to the condo to relax.  My dad and I rushed over to Sabino Canyon to catch an absolutely stunning sunset.  It was fantastic!  I sat in the hot tub by myself in the dark and looked up to see so many stars.  It was such a nice evening and the kids had an absolute blast at Tombstone!
