NYE we finally got to read all the memories I wrote in our 2022 memory jar! Each of us took turns reading a memory out loud until they were all gone. I loved this tradition and plan to make it an annual thing.
This year we went back to our pre-Covid tradition of going to the Livonia Rec Center with neighbors and friends for the kids NYE party from 4-7pm. Scott, Jeff and Greg watched the U of M game at Jeff's house while Ashley and I took all the kids. The first thing they wanted to do was swim. Ashley, Shelley and I were so bummed that they had the hot tub closed as we had planned on sitting in that and talking. But, the kids had fun on the slide!
After the pool we grabbed some pizza, salad, chips and cookies for a pre-dinner since Ashley had a ton of food back at home. The kids played basketball, climbed the rock wall and ladder, played some carnival games for prizes, and enjoyed the photo booth. I hate to say it, but I think this is likely their last year here as they were definitely some of the oldest kids there. They had a great time, but you could tell they had outgrown most of it. They did the balloon drop at 7pm and then it was time to head to Ashley and Jeff's house.
Back at Ashley's there was more food to munch on. They brought out the karaoke machine. Football was disappointing all around with both games, but we made it just in time for the countdown at midnight. The kids did poppers outside in the front yard and someone nearby put off fireworks that we could see. We made it home by 1am and all of us were more than ready for bed!
Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2023 is full of good health, good company, and good travels!
