June started off with some touch competition at the PG Open States Tournament. We had a game Friday against Michigan Bulls - Gove and lost 18-1. Saturday we played the Northville Broncos - Laliberte and lost 13-4 and Jet Box and lost 9-1. It was a humbling weekend playing some strong AAA teams. Evan pitched 3 innings in the Jet Box game and had 2 strike outs. He faced 17 batters and went 73 pitches with 34 of them being strikes. Overall, he went 1 for 2 at-bats in the first game, 0 for 3 with two walks during the second game and an RBI, 1 for 2 with a walk in the third game.
Next up was the PG AA States Tournament at Canton Sports Center. While the boys lost all 3 games again, they did much better. We started by playing Precision Patriots - Bush. We were winning most of the game and lost towards the end 10-9. Evan had an amazing game going 2 for 3 at bat with 2 RBI's and he came in as closer and struck out 4 out of the 5 batters he faced throwing 24 pitches, 13 of which were strikes. He earned the MVP of the game award and got a really nice ring from PG! We then played Five Tool - Hayward and lost 13-11 after blowing another big lead. Evan went 1 for 3 at bat with 1 RBI. Sunday, we played South Lyon Thunder Red and lost 14-11. Evan went 1 for 4 with two walks.
The last weekend in June we did a FAAST tournament at Eastern called Grand Slam Championship. We were so excited to play the Precision Patriots - Styles, which was Evan's old team (with a new coach). We won 15-0. Evan went 3 for 3 at bat with 2 RBI's. We then played the Tecumseh Arrows and lost after having the lead most of the game 9-8. Evan went 2 for 3 at bat and had one walk. Sunday we had to play the same team again in the semi-finals and lost 9-2. The curse of the semi-finals this year continues! Evan went 1 for 3 at bat. I was surprised that he didn't pitch at all the whole tournament.
We had the fourth of July weekend off and went up north again. Our last regular season tournament was another tough one called the Michigan Monster and had 28 teams of just 13U teams. This was an open tournament and we drew some tough teams in pool play. We had to play Hawks Gold - Piesko first, which is the number one rated team in Michigan. We lost...by a lot. I think it was 20-0. I have no stats on Evan because we didn't have anyone running game changer. We then played Michigan Bulls - Gove again and lost 17-5. Evan went 0 for 2 at bat. Finally, we played Oakland Reds - Jaquez and lost 7-3. Evan went 1 for 2 at bat with 1 RBI. Once again, another weekend with no pitching. I didn't take any camera photos because Scott and I were under the weather with the "produce parasite".
Our last hurrah on ICE baseball was our big trip to Pigeon Forge for the Ripken Experience!
