Man, did the weekend fly by! We had a very festive weekend as we watched Elf, baked cookies for my cookie exchange, and participated in the Santa Hat Hustle 5k in Royal Oak!
Evan and I were busy little bakers Friday after school/work making the gingerbread dough that would need to refrigerate overnight. We just finished before we had to get Sean off the bus. Since I had a mountain of dishes, laundry to start, and a sore throat, we went to Leo's for dinner. A bowl of soup and some salad and I was feeling better already! Evan decided to get his face painted like a tiger scratch during dinner and the boys came home to watch Boss Baby on Netflix before bed.
Saturday morning we had our 5k in Royal Oak and thankfully it started much later in the morning than the Kona runs in Plymouth do. We got to Mindy's house around 9:30am and got ready for the kids to run their Merry Mile. All four kids beat their times from the Chocolate Run! In fact, Sean finished in under 10 minutes (9:38 to be exact)! I was so proud of him.
The 5k started right after and it was an interesting path weaving through downtown Royal Oak. The last mile killed me, as usual. I still finished with my best time this season (33:15) and was proud considering I didn't feel the best. We went out to lunch afterwards with everyone at a great restaurant called Village Oak. It was a nice morning with Scott's family.
After we got home I had an unfortunate accident. The kids were in the breezeway getting their shoes on to go play outside without our permission. I went down the 2 cement steps to grab Evan's arm and bring him back inside, but slipped right off the first step. Instead of falling back, I fell forward somehow twisting my left leg and ankle and eventually falling on it on the second step. It was extremely painful and caused for a rough afternoon. I tried to take a nap and a hot shower to see if it would feel better, but it didn't help much. I had another 5 dozen cookies to bake before my party and dinner to make for the family, so I sucked it up and got to work.
In the end, despite my complaining about the amount of working baking 6 dozen cookies is, I really enjoyed visiting with friends! It was a nice evening and I made it home by 10:30pm!
Sunday was spent grocery shopping and Target shopping, playing outside with the kids (they each had a play date in the afternoon), and finishing laundry. I stayed in sweatpants all day and tried to take it easy on my leg that was still bothering me. After trying a new recipe for dinner I finally got to sit down and I watched Elf with the boys before they went to bed.
This week will be crazy busy with things going on at the boys' school in addition to their usual activities! Two half days for them, parent-teacher conferences for them, a skating party, "Christmas in Plymouth" downtown, and a cookies and cocoa with Santa event, we will be busy! But, at least it's all fun and festive! Crazy to think Christmas is in 3 weeks!
