Snow Day and Holiday Nights

The theme of our week seemed to be related to snow!  Fun in snow at school pick-up while waiting for big brother to be dismissed.

Fun in the snow after an early dismissal from school on Thursday.  Although my school and Scott's school weren't dismissed early (I swear the only ones...), we both split early to pick up the boys who did have an early dismissal.  They requested sledding on Hines Drive behind our house followed by watching The Grinch with Nevaeh.  Done and done.

It seemed like a good evening to make some homemade chicken strips and crockpot mac and cheese.  The boys skipped Ninja Warriors as we were snowed in for the evening and we had surprise phone calls from all 3 school districts announcing our snow day for Thursday.  The boys were in bed by that point so it was a fun surprise for them Thursday morning.  Chippy played a part in that!

The boys were more excited to eat the sugar and marshmallows on the table than learning they were off for the day.  But, it was exciting nonetheless.  We watched Nevaeh during the day and took all 3 kids to Costco for lunch and groceries, to get haircuts for the boys and Scott, and to get supplies for making gingerbread houses.  The kids went sledding for a while after we got back while I built the houses and then they spent all of 15 minutes decorating them.  Phew!  Exhausting!

Unfortunately, late afternoon Evan crashed.  Spiked a low-grade fever and was forced to sit down and watch a movie.  Friends went home, Sean went to his piano lesson, and we were scrambling to make plans for Friday knowing Evan was down for the count.  I ended up staying home with him Friday and took him to the doctor.  Just a virus, thankfully!  But, he was pretty miserable Friday and Saturday, for that matter.

Saturday we had plans to celebrate my Dad's birthday.  They came over late afternoon, we had dinner at Buddy's, and we went on to Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village.  Scott and Evan stayed home for all of it since Evan was still running a fever.  I'm so bummed they missed out, but we had a great time!  Sean ice skated with me and rocked it, we did a craft, rode in a Model T, and saw Santa and the reindeer.  A success!

Today Evan's fever finally broke and he was somewhat back to his usual self.  We ran to Five Below for the boys to pick out gifts for each other and for us (family tradition there...) and picked up the boys some Panera for lunch.  I got a pedicure and a shellac manicure this afternoon.  Yay!  I made a recipe for a chicken and rice casserole I haven't made in a few years for dinner and worked on wrapping gifts.  I cannot believe Christmas is in one week!  This season flew by!  Time to start finalizing our New Year's plans.
