Winter has definitely arrived, even if it's not "official" by the calendar. An inch or so of snow fell overnight and the boys were very excited to wake up and find it outside Saturday morning! There's nothing quite like Evan running full speed in our room, peeking out our blinds, and shouting, "It snowed!" to wake us up!
After breakfast and working on some homework (spelling words and piano for Sean, a worksheet on the letter Q for Evan), the boys couldn't wait any longer to get bundled up to go out and play in the snow! Thankfully, Scott was willing to take them out and see if his snow blower would work this season. I stood on the porch in my pajamas and snapped a few action shots.
It wasn't long before the neighbors joined them outside and two hours later, we had to bring them inside to get ready to see Elf Jr. the Musical in Royal Oak to celebrate birthdays.
We have more snow coming in today throughout the day and overnight, but certainly not enough for a snow day. Here's hoping we get at least two this year! I love getting an extra day or two at home with the whole family, sledding down the big hill on Hines Drive and staying in our pajamas all day. Ahhhh winter!
Friday evening, the boys' school had a cute event called Cookies and Cocoa with Santa. Lifetouch was there to take nice holiday photos, Santa arrived and we were first to visit him, and they had some cute crafts out for the boys to make. I didn't think we'd be able to peel them away from the coloring/sticker table. But, they actually made some really nice cards that we brought home! Maybe it's time for me to go to Michael's and stock up on crafts.
In the Christmas spirit this weekend, we also saw Elf Jr. in Royal Oak at the historic Berwyn Theater. We celebrated Sydney's 9th birthday (she's an Elf enthusiast) and Pops' birthday too! The musical was so cute, although Scott was less than thrilled to sit through that. The boys were able to get autographs of the actors after the show. We went to Mindy's house afterwards to do dessert and presents and decided after an hour to all go out to Renshaw's in Clawson for dinner together. It was a really nice afternoon/evening spent with family.
Sunday I met up for lunch with Laura, who took a new position teaching in Wyandotte this school year. It's been so weird at work this year without her here and I miss her so much! It was nice to catch up and eat lunch at one of our favorite spots, La Pita in Dearborn. After lunch, I escaped to Marshall's to pick up a few gifts and a Christmas top for me to wear. I then picked up the boys and we ran some more errands together to get more Christmas shopping done. Shopping with kids...is not easy, no matter the age. I was exhausted by the time we got home.
Luckily, it was Stromboli for dinner (something quick and easy) and we watched Arthur's Christmas with a fire as a way to end our snowy weekend!
Can't believe we're two weeks away to Christmas! There's so much to do still...make gingerbread houses, see the lights on Hines Drive, go back to Campus Martius with the boys, go to Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village, wrap gifts, and oh yeah...try to enjoy the season!
