Evan at 5.5 Years Old!
I'm a little behind on this post, as Evan turned 5.5 back on March 2nd, but in a way I'm glad I waited to post. Evan has seemed to just flourish over the past month! He has learned how to swing by himself AND make it all the way across the monkey bars at the park! Both are things we have been working on the past few weeks as the weather has turned nicer and we're so proud of him! And he made it all the way to downtown for lunch at Panera and a trip to the library on his bike without training wheels (he ditched those back at the end of the summer last year)! It was about 3 miles round trip.
School is going really well for Evan! He gets along with his classmates, has only gone on yellow twice this entire year (both times because he was talking too much...I wonder who he gets that from.), and seems to really enjoy going. His favorite special is library and he's big into checking out Junie B. Jones books that we read to him every night. He thinks she's hilarious and I honestly see a little bit of her in Evan sometimes. Like when he calls plants, planets. Silly, Ev!
He loves participating in spirit days at school with pajama day and crazy hair day as examples! He was picked as Green Student of the Month at school with his...lovely picture on the wall. And he just seems to have adjusted really well to being at school full-time as a Farrand Fox. He knows and can write all his lowercase and uppercase letters, he knows his numbers by 10's all the way to 100 and we're working on counting by 5's. He's currently reading at a level B and seems very into learning sight words and spelling words too. He asks all the time how to spell words!
His favorite friends at school in his class are Ethan, Samuel, and Jacob. Although he went to his first friend's birthday party back in February for Otto. At home he loves playing with Nevaeh and Jameson, although he seems to go back and forth with how he feels about everyone on a daily basis. Sometimes it's the "I hate girls" kind of day for him and other times he calls Jameson "a cry-baby". Yeah, we're working on him being kind and tolerant to everyone. It's a work in progress...
Outside of school we just wrapped up a few months of swim lessons at Aqua Tot. Evan was in a level 5 and we plan on re-joining in July when soccer has finished. He's playing soccer again this spring and had his first game this past Sunday. Holy cow did he improve! He was lightning fast on the field and really went after the ball. He had a few very close opportunities to score, but wasn't able to. Next time, for sure!
At home he's big into dress up still and Imaginext toys! He got the villain's costume from Despicable Me 3 for Easter from the bunny and loves getting into character with faux mustaches and all! He likes playing board games and recently discovered Twister, although Chutes and Ladders is another favorite. Evan is my piano man. That kid loves to sit down and tinker on the real piano, play on the piano app we have, or just watch people play on youtube. I really think he's going to be my musical child of the two. We've talked about putting him in lessons next fall so we'll see if he's still interested when the time comes. For now, we're just impressed with what he's able to teach himself.
He's finally starting to eat more foods, which we're thrilled about. Mac and cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers, and occasionally grilled chicken have been added to his "will eat" list. He still loves all fruits, is pretty good about vegetables, and is definitely addicted to sweets! He sure loves Pez candy, suckers, and Lucky Fish (aka Swedish Fish). He's weighing just over 40 lbs and is 45" tall. He's in all size 5 bottoms and tops and size 10-11 shoes. We still have him in the 5 point harness seat in my car, but moved him last weekend to a high-back booster in Scott's car since he was in an expired seat.
I really can't believe how big he's getting! I look at him and I don't see a little boy anymore. His attitude is definitely that of a big kid. Most of all, I love how entertaining he is. Always saying something funny or making sarcastic comebacks. It's going to be fun to see where that personality takes him as he continues to grow up.
