On one of the last weekends in April, Scott and I went to the Royal Oak Beer Festival with Mindy and Matt to celebrate Scott's birthday. The boys stayed with Nana and Pops for a sleepover, which they were excited about. We ate dinner at Jolly Pumpkin, grabbed a few beers at a small microbrewery down the street, and then went over to the Farmer's Market where the Festival is held. It was a really fun night and I found a few new beers that I really enjoyed! Raspberry seemed to be my theme for the evening...
We kept the tradition alive and Pops picked us up, making a stop at National Coney Island for "drunk food". Scott and I played Nana and Pops in Euchre and sadly, Pops and I lost. What a fun evening!
We closed out April with some warm weather (finally), which meant we could do our first bonfire and first trip to Dairy King for ice cream!
The past week with the start of May has been amazing! The temperature last week had two days above 85 degrees, which meant as soon as I got home I laid out in the sun while the kids played in the backyard before we had to start homework, dinner, and sports practices. I'm not having pale, pasty white legs this summer!
Last weekend was a busy one! Sean's baseball game on Friday was cancelled because of flooded fields (we had lots of rain Wednesday night and Thursday). I was so glad it was because he came home from school not feeling well and I had to attend my school's prom. I would have been bummed to miss his first baseball game. Scott kept me up to date with Sean's health all evening and after going to dinner at Los Tres Amigos, to prom to see some students, and out for a beer at Hermann's with Sarah, it was time to go home.
Saturday Sean really didn't feel well. I took him to the pediatrician in the morning while they still had office hours and he was tested for strep throat. It was negative, thankfully, but he was still pretty out of it. We kept him home from his soccer game late morning and got him an apple fritter from the Farmer's Market (first one of the season!). Of course, I had to get some soap from my "soap guy" and I'm loving his new spring line with Michigan scents.
By mid-afternoon, Sean perked up a bit and so I decided to go forward with our plans to go to the Mother-Son dance at The Summit in Canton with Andrea and Logan. I told him if he didn't feel well, we could leave. It was a cute idea, but I think he was a bit too old for it. And I think that it would have been better if he was big into dancing and all that. But, we ate a snack there, took some pictures, got some face painting, and then decided to leave.
Andrea and Logan came to our house since Scott was watching Andrea's younger son, Ethan. We had chicken tacos (I made them in the crockpot), chips and salsa, and some margaritas for Cinco de Mayo while the kids ate pizza and bounced on the bounce house that Scott put up. It was actually a really fun afternoon, even if Sean was on the couch watching a movie while all the kids played. Poor kid was still not feeling well.
Sunday Sean was feeling better and seemed back to normal. Evan had a soccer game at 2pm, which was on a rain delay for 20 minutes and Sean only got 30 minutes of his baseball practice in before they cancelled it for thunder. Lucky Sean got to spend the rest of the afternoon over at Corey's house for his actual birthday. He had a birthday party with family at his house and picked Sean as the one friend to come over. They played Jurassic World all afternoon, ate dinner, and had cake. We love the Green family!
This week is teacher appreciation week with Mother's Day on Sunday so I'm excited to kick off some more exciting festivities! As always, we'll be busy with soccer and baseball, but the kids will have plenty of time for friends too. I'm kind of loving spring this year!
