Sean has been a busy guy this spring. We kept him in soccer, but also put him on a coach-pitch baseball team. I really wish the baseball team was a summer league, but it coincides with soccer. We would have only had overlap for the month of May, but so much of April's soccer games were cancelled because of rain that now we're doing soccer make-ups in addition to regularly scheduled soccer practices, games, baseball practices, and games. It's a lot!
But, Sean seems to be handling it well. They do baseball practices on Sunday from 2-3:30pm right by our house. His best friend, Corey, and his cousin, Adelaide, are on the team.
They had two games get cancelled in a row because of rain so they finally had their first game this past Friday. Sean pretty much had no clue what he was doing with all the rules. He played t-ball the summer before he turned 6 and then he was too old last summer to play t-ball and we dropped the ball on registering for coach-pitch. So, this was really all new to him. He did pretty good though! His first up to bat, he hit on the second pitch and made it to first base. His other up to bats took several pitches before he hit one, but he got an RBI so we were proud. On defense, he played in the outfield, 1st base, 3rd base, and catcher. He seemed to be getting better as the game went on and I know by the end of the season he'll be great!
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, he had a field trip to the Sea Life Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing. I took the day off so I could go with him. I drove with another mom, Andrea. The kids had an hour to tour the aquarium before they went to a half hour long workshop where they learned about Sturgeon in Michigan lakes. After that, we had lunch in the food court and did a bit of shopping at the Lego store before I signed him out to take him home with me. I had one other student, Sawyer, with me that I was responsible for during the field trip and he was an angel! We had a great day! And I'm glad I got to be with Sean on his special trip!
Soccer will go through mid-June, baseball will go through the month of June, and Sean is looking forward to Field Day and the Farrand Carnival in the next few weeks. Life is good when you're a first grader!
