Mother's Day Weekend

Last weekend we celebrated Mother's Day with my mom on Saturday and the boys spoiled me on Sunday.  Scott's mom was up north for the weekend so we sent her a hanging basket that turned out beautiful (it's always risky doing those floral delivery services...you never know what you're going to get quality-wise)!  The weather wasn't the best, with cool storms coming in.  In fact, those storms cancelled Sean's baseball game on Friday and both of the boy's soccer games on Saturday.  So, a big part of our weekend was spent at home, inside.

Saturday morning Scott did the grocery shopping with Sean while Evan and I stayed home and played with trains, Duplos, Lincoln Logs, and Magna-Tiles.  It had been a while since I just sat on the floor with him and played/built things and it felt nice to spend that time with him.  At 11am, my parents came over to hang out for a while.  We gave Grandma her gifts and the boys wanted me to open their gifts they made at school.  I got a clay heart, a clay owl, some cards, a shrinky dink key-chain, and a coaster.  I was quite impressed!

We ate lunch at Compari's on the Park!  Yum!!!  One of my favorite restaurants and they have the best lasagna!  After lunch, my mom and I went over to Madison Boutique to do some browsing since she's never been there and the boys went home with Scott and my dad.  It was a nice afternoon.

I let the boys go outside in their rain boots once the rain stopped so they could jump in a few puddles (a spring rite-of-passage).  Unfortunately, Sean tripped and fell face first in the puddle before he even got to jump in any of them.  That was the end of that for him.  He went in, crying.  Evan got in a few jumps before I made them go upstairs to take a shower and get their pajamas on.  It was movie night!  The Greatest Showman!

Sunday morning I got to lay in bed reading for an hour (I don't really know how to sleep in anymore).  We got up and went out to breakfast at Leo's before getting underway to the Toledo Zoo.  I wanted to go one more time before our membership expires.  It rained on and off driving out there, but once we arrived, the rain was done.

I really love the layout of this zoo!  The boys love walking over the bridge and getting to walk across the freeway.  The polar bear exhibit is great, they have elephants, cheetahs, hippos, and other animals that the Detroit Zoo doesn't have, and the aquarium can't be beat!  We had a great afternoon walking around and seeing some of our favorites.

By 1pm we were ready to head back home and do a lunch/dinner out somewhere.  My brother called me on the way home and it was nice catching up with him and Ana.  I picked Los Tres Amigos for our meal and we were back home by 4pm.  The boys played outside while I worked on my puzzle and edited my pictures on Lightroom.

The boys had one surprise left for me!  They transformed the basement into "Disney World"!!  They drew on butcher paper the castle and some of the rides.  They set up the model Monorail we have.  They even turned off the lights at one point and used some light-up toys to make fireworks.  Scott made homemade Dole Whip (it was not even close to the real thing, but I appreciated the effort!).  It was really cute and I appreciated all the thought and effort that went into making that for me.

It was a Mother's Day for the books and I'm very blessed to not only have the most amazing mother, but to be given the opportunity to take what I've learned from her to be a mother to Sean and Evan!!!
