Father's Day Weekend Up North

I have to say...

being on the lake up north the day we were let out of school might be the best way to start summer vacation!  And it was a first for us.  But, I asked Scott wanted he wanted to do for Father's Day and he mentioned going up to his parent's.  So, up north we went!

Friday evening on the lake, by ourselves, was quite peaceful.  We warmed up some pizza I brought from home for dinner when the kids got hungry.  But, mostly, we just played on the beach, rode the jet-skis, enjoyed some cold beers, and let the kids get all their energy out.

Saturday morning Scott's parents arrived around 11am and it was cloudy.  In fact, it was cloudy most of the day, but still warm enough to do water activities.  Evan, as always, was fearless in the water.  Swimming out far, picking up all kinds of "treasures" such as crayfish and worms and fish off the line.  Sean was a bit more timid this time.  I think he's more and more like me each day...

Sean was feeling under the weather still.  Not much of an appetite, a fever, and a headache.  I ended up having to run to the Dollar General in town for some supplies like a digital thermometer and some children's tylenol.  Poor guy.  But, it was a relaxing day so he enjoyed a calm boat ride around the lake and got enough energy back to fish with Pop's.  Mindy came late afternoon just before dinner too, which was a nice surprise.

After dinner the boys practiced baseball outside and then we went for some ice cream at Two Scoops in town!  Yum!  A waffle cone with Cookie Jar is quite possibly one of my favorite ice creams of all time.

Sunday, the weather was amazing!  Hot, hot, hot!  Which made it more fun for jumping in the lake.  Pops, Scott, and Mindy went golfing in the morning while Nana and I took the boys to West Branch for Putt-Putt and lunch.  We tried to beat the heat, but it was still toasty and muggy.

We all got back to the house around the same time.  Everyone changed into their swim suits and hit up the beach.  Jet-ski's, a boat ride around the lake again (this time with everyone jumping in to cool off), and lots of sand castles.  A great afternoon!

After dinner, Pops made a bonfire so we could roast s'mores, even though it was super hot out.  Over the fire, the adults decided to plan a Beer Olympics for the 4th of July week when we're all up together.  It could totally have been planned over drinks and will not actually happen, but for now, we're still planning to do it!  I'm in charge of making the poster board and handling the logistics of teams and colors/names.  Mindy will plan what actual games we'll play.  Should be fun...

Monday morning was raining so we took it as our sign to pack up and drive home.  Sean had a baseball game at 6pm and it was time to get our new summer routine started at home.  We had an amazing time up north and can't wait to head back up in two weeks for the 4th of July!
