After getting home from almost a week up north for the Fourth of July, the boys started their week of summer camp at NorthRidge Church. Their cousins raved about SpringHill camp, housed at NorthRidge, so I made sure to register them back over the winter when registration opened. The camp would be Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm with the perfect mix of Christian bible study/prayer and fun, outdoor activities.
I cannot speak enough to how organized and smooth camp drop off and pick up was every day. They had this down to a science! And the boys were thrilled to be in the same group as their cousin, Adelaide. To Evan's surprise, three boys from his Young Fives class at Farrand were in his group too!
They spend their days doing small group, large group, a picnic lunch, and playing outside with things like climbing a rock wall, water play, bungee jumping on a trampoline, "flying squirrel", Hungry Hippos, and an obstacle course. To say they had fun was an understatement! They even had certain theme days like Tie-Dye Tuesday and Wacky Wednesday.
On the last day they had a celebration ceremony for the parents starting at 2:45pm. They started with large group in the basement of the church where they performed several songs. I was surprised to see the boys front and center! And they were actually singing and dancing!
They then broke into their groups and went back to their rooms where they did a ceremony giving each child a character trait award and connected it to a verse from the bible. It was really awesome! Sean got the "loyalty" award and Evan got the "dependability" award.
Sean has already expressed interest in trying the overnight camp, although I'm not sure I'm ready for him to be away at camp for a week without us. We'll for sure be doing the day camp next year for both of the boys! They had such a great time and they learned a lot about God and Jesus.
In addition to SpringHill, Art in the Park kicked off in downtown Plymouth Friday afternoon. Before the celebration ceremony at their camp, my mom came out to do some shopping with me at the art fair. We browsed, bought similar necklaces, and ate a Mediterranean lunch at Simply Fresh. We had a great time, although it was super hot!
After camp let out the boys were chomping at the bit to head over to the art fair too. We went home and I made a quick dinner before we went back out. We lucked out with an amazing, free parking spot very close to the fair! They immediately went to a Lego booth where they could build, look at displays, and design their own mini-figure.
Of course we had to do our traditions like getting lemonade, kettle corn, and shopping at the same booths each year. Evan bought a new keychain this year with a tiny crab inside of it. Last year he picked one with a giant spider that we're both pretty afraid of. He's already asked for it to be attached to his backpack. Ugh!
We let the boys dip their feet in the fountain to cool down before we went back home and called it a night. We love Art in the Park! I especially love how they let the kids contribute to making art that they put in the schools throughout the district.
