Scott and I had a special date this past Saturday in Detroit! I bought tickets back in February for the Zac Brown Band and One Republic concert at Comerica Park and it was finally the day! After talking to a few friends that know downtown Detroit pretty well, we decided to do dinner at HopCat and ride the Qline over to the venue. We decided to splurge and use a Lyft for the first time (I swear we're old and lame) to get down there and back home so we didn't have to worry about one of us being sober enough to drive home. And it was money well spent!
I had a strawberry blonde beer (it was fitting!) and it was really disappointing. I think Scott was pretty bummed that HopCat didn't have any of their own beer that they brew in Grand Rapids. I thought it was strange too. But, the food. Oh man, the food was delicious! We each picked a burger with the crack fries and it was sooooo good!
The Qline stop was right outside the restaurant. We waited a few minutes after dinner and made friends with a local who had all kinds of advice for how we should spend our evening in Detroit. He gave us a few pointers about riding the Qline, including how to ride for free. It was fun, but it made me wonder why they didn't spend more money to expand that kind of transportation throughout other parts of downtown. I'd love to see it go to Corktown or Midtown.
We got to Comerica Park a little early and although we could have gone in and sat down, we decided to make the journey over to Greektown Casino for a bit. We have a thing about going to Greektown anytime we're in Detroit. While it wasn't my lucky night on the slots, Scott ended up walking out $18 up from what we came in with. It killed an hour and made him happy. We arrived just in time to get beers, go to the bathroom, meet up with my friend Erin and her family before One Republic came on.
We definitely had seats up in the nosebleeds. In fact, they are usually where we like to sit during Tiger's games behind home plate. But, the view of the skyline as the sun set made up for it!
Scott was being crabby about getting his picture taken, but aside from that, we had a good night! The music was great! Zac Brown Band did such an amazing job. The violinist - oh my gosh! His covers that he does too were amazing. He did "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" and they were so captivating!
