Happy 6th Birthday, Evan!!
Over labor day weekend we celebrated Evan's 6th birthday on a sunny and hot Sunday! He was born on a Sunday, so it felt extra exciting this year having it fall on a Sunday again. He was more than excited for his birthday to come around. In fact, he had a countdown going on a dry erase board in the kitchen and updated his birthday list almost daily since school let out in June. Evan equates summer to his birthday, even though it's at the very end.
I stayed up late getting everything ready. With back to school, professional development meetings, and my grandma moving to hospice, it's been a busy two weeks. But, I made sure to make it extra special.
He woke up bright and early at 7am wanting to go downstairs and open his gifts. He tore right in to them and seemed happy with what we bought him.
Oddly enough, his favorite gift from us were these astronaut jammies from Target that were a last minute add to his list a few weeks ago when we were shopping there. He had to put them on despite it being in the 90's outside.
He requested "rainbow pancakes" like Leo's Coney Island makes so I threw in some chocolate chips, Americana sprinkles, and made them Mickey Mouse shaped and he was pleased.
He played with his new toys for a while and then we all got ready to head over to Three Cedars Farm for opening weekend at the cider mill. It's been a standing tradition that we go for his birthday for several years now and he looks forward to it as much as I do! I love fall and everything that comes with it! It was not busy at all, as I'm sure the hot temps kept most people somewhere indoors. But, the boys had a blast! And the best part was that there were NO BEES!
The boys love the general store that has the best fall and Halloween decorations and knick-knacks to buy! It got us all in the spirit for the fall that we decorated the house for fall the next day!
After we left the cider mill we made a pit-stop at a really cool park we discovered this summer and the boys once again preferred playing in the stream and throwing rocks in it from the bridge.
We came home and rested for a bit before my mom came over late afternoon. My dad was originally going to come too, but opted to stay at the hospital with my grandma. Evan got to open the gifts from my parents and his favorite was the Lego set they bought him!
We went to Chili's (his choice) for dinner since he loves their chicken fingers and loves that they sing to him for his birthday. I'm not going to lie, I absolutely love Chili's too so that made me very happy that it was his first choice after McDonald's that we all vetoed.
We came back to the house to enjoy a Scorpion themed birthday cake. He blew out the candles so quickly and then remembered that he forgot to make a wish. So, we re-lit the candles and started over again. Silly kid!
Lucky boy will be having a joint birthday party with Sean in a week and a half at a gym that has a ninja warrior course. They also play Nerf Gun war or Capture the Flag during the party too. We'll also celebrate with Scott's family after the friend birthday party. Lots of celebrations!
Evan is excited to be in Kindergarten this year! He started school this week (post to come soon) and feels like a pro since he did Young 5's last year. He's also back on his same soccer team with Scott coaching, in Glider 3 at Goldfish Swim School, and really wants to take piano lessons...but, we'll see about that one. He seems right where he should be at for his age with his academic skills. He knows tons of sight words from last year, can read at a level C/D, does pretty well at math, and can write some sentences telling about things he did or places he went.
His favorite friends at school are Samuel (who is in 1st grade this year), Logan (a girl from Young 5's who sits at his table this year in Kindergarten), and Ethan. He loves playing with Nevaeh across the street! He seems to think he's a big kid though, as he prefers to run around with Sean's buddies.
He's weighing in around 45 lbs. and is just shy of 48" (we know because he was denied getting on a ride at the county fair up north a few weeks ago). He's wearing a size 5, but is probably ready to move in to some size 6 shirts. He's wearing a size 11 in a shoe. He's finally starting to try more foods these days. Today he even ate some zucchini bread a co-worker made me! He's added hot dogs, mac and cheese, and a few other things to his "will-eat list". Dare I say he's taking after me with his picky eating?
We are so proud of how much he's grown over the year in all aspects and we know that he will thrive this year in Kindergarten! He's such a witty, sassy, opinionated little boy. I swear, he will crack you up with what comes out of his mouth. We love you, Pookie Bear!
