On Tuesday, September 11th, my Grandma passed away around noon. She was surrounded by my dad, my mom, and my three uncles. It was a peaceful passing since she had too much carbon dioxide in her blood, which caused her to just be overly sleepy. She was in hospice care at home after a long battle all summer with various health issues.
She went into the hospital originally in June for bleeding, but they discovered a pulmonary embolism while she was there. They gave her a 50% chance of living at that point and true to her nature, she showed them. She survived and spent the rest of the summer battling her blood pressure, her breathing/oxygenation, her bleeding, and a few other things. Medical professionals said multiple times that she didn't have much chance of surviving, but she seemed to prove everyone wrong.
She truly gave it her best effort all summer while in the hospital and while in the rehab center to get back home. I think we were all relieved that she was able to make it home for her final days and that all her sons were able to be with her. I know she's in a better place and that she's at peace.
Her funeral was Friday with 16 of our family members. My brother and sister-in-law flew home for it. It was a quiet, but nice afternoon spent with family as we all visited and said goodbye to her. We ate dinner at Da Francesca's afterwards. Sean and Evan handled the funeral with grace and maturity. Honestly, we are so proud of them. Sean cried when he first got there and saw her. I think he needed to see it to believe it. Both him and Evan kept going up to the casket and saying prayers.
May she rest in peace and may she know how much we all love her.
