This was an interesting year for Mother's Day since we are still in quarantine. Typically, on Mother's Day, I like to have a pretty low-key day. So, in actuality, what we did in quarantine to celebrate was pretty similar to what I like on a normal year.
The boys made me breakfast in bed like they do every year. They came up in their aprons and served me breakfast on a cookie sheet with homemade cards. I watched the live action Cinderella in bed while eating and Sean kept me company.
We took a bike ride to Newburgh Lake, locked up our bikes, and walked the inner trail along the lake before the rain started.
I decided to get a run in outside and did 2 miles. I grabbed a diet coke in the McDonald's drive thru and had a lazy afternoon on the couch hanging out with the family. We ordered growlers from Arbor Brewing Company and then later ordered dinner from Ironwood. There was quite a wait for order pick-ups, so most of our food was cold when Scott brought it home, but we ate dinner on the living room floor while we watched movie 5 of Harry Potter. Sean and I had finished the book the night before and we were pumped!
It was a really nice day with my family! We had done a social distance visit with Scott's parents a few days before outside on our patio while eating dinner so we celebrated with her then. A few days after Mother's Day we had my parents over for a bike ride to celebrate with my mom. We made it work given the circumstances this year.
I'm so proud to be their mom and in case I needed reinforcement, this message from a former student brought me to tears before I went to bed:
