Easter Festivities 2019

Happy Easter, from our family to yours!

We started our Easter week off with a church event at St. Kenneth for the boys.  They learned all about Holy Week and did a cute craft for each important day (Good Friday, Holy Saturday, etc.).  They also got a treat for each one too that Evan was all about.  Gummy palms, hard candy crosses, a chocolate cross - he was obsessed!

On Good Friday, we were all off work and school so we decided to dye eggs in the morning and go to church in the afternoon at Northridge this year so we could leave Easter Sunday morning open.  The boys wanted to buy a foam kit this year for the eggs and it was a mess!  But, the eggs turned out decent.  Of course, this was after Evan took it upon himself to open the red dye and get it all over my kitchen counter and his pajamas.  I just love these kind of family bonding experiences.

So, I've never been to a mass at Northridge or a church like it before and I've always wanted to go.  It was an interesting experience.  The boys opted to go to the RidgeKids program that was quite fancy.  They were separated by grade level and each had quite an impressive program.  For me and Scott, church was like a concert with a huge auditorium and cup holders.  The music was super loud, but it was fantastic.  I really enjoyed what I would consider to be the sermon.  While we aren't ready to jump ship from St. Kenneth as we have two more years there with Evan needing to go through his first communion, I know that I'd like to go back to Northridge again.

Saturday morning we rushed off to the Plymouth Township egg hunt.  With the muddy fields and chance of rain, there were probably half the normal amount of people that come so it was kind of nice to have it not be so crowded.  The boys got tons of eggs and each won a large prize and two small prizes.

My parents came over about an hour later and we went to lunch at Compari's, which was delicious as always.  The boys opened their Easter baskets from my parents and we had a rainy day inside with Star Wars on and some board games.  It was a nice afternoon.  Just wish the weather would have been nicer!

Easter Sunday the boys were up by 7am and ready to find their baskets.  It took a few minutes, but the bunny was clever and his Sean's in the computer room closet and Evan's in the playroom hiding in toys.  They were both very excited with what the bunny brought so it was a morning full of excitement.  They built Legos, ate a bowl of a cereal, and continued to empty their basket, lay their things out, and then pack them up again.  Scott's family came over around 10am for a late breakfast.  It was kind of nice to not have to rush out of the house for mass.

I made company potatoes, a blueberry bundt cake, and a scrambled egg bar with mexican toppings to make tacos with the eggs.  Nana brought sausage and bacon, Mindy brought fruit and an ice cream cake for Nana's birthday, and Jackie brought pancakes with toppings for the kids.  Nana and Pops set up an egg hunt in the backyard with money for the kids.  We also celebrated Nana's birthday on the deck before heading to the Tiger's game.  The weather was amazing!  We had such a beautiful day with free rides on the carousel and the ferris wheel.  The boys even got to run the bases at the end of the game!

We were all exhausted by the end of the weekend, but the kids opted to play outside with the neighbors and I worked on getting things ready for the school/work week.  The windows were open, the sun was shining, and we all felt blessed for the memories we made.  Sean ended the evening by saying, "Is Jesus risen today?" to which I responded, "Yes" and he said, "Did anyone see him?"  Love that kid...
