The official countdown to summer vacation is on!! 45 more days of school/work to go and we can relive some of our favorite moments from our recent spring break on a daily basis, only with much better weather! This year for spring break we stayed home. While it was no easy feat to see the vacation pictures bombarding social media posted by friends and family, we made our own fun at home and at the tail end of break got some really great weather!
We kicked off the next 10 days off together with dinner out at Chili's and skipped the boys' last session of Reign Academy soccer camp. Oops! I had a coupon for a free dessert, which Evan was all about. The weather wasn't the best on that first Saturday, but I was excited to have plans with my bestie, Trisha, to help me pick out my bridesmaid dress for Mindy's wedding and to grab dinner at Bar Louie in Novi. We had a blast and the dress is bought! Woo hoo!
Sunday I took the boys to the Cranbrook Science Center with the Green family. I had bought a membership on Groupon after New Year's so it was our first time getting to use it. The museum was nice and the boys enjoyed a planetarium show too. Too bad putting four boys together in a museum while it blew a light dusting of snow around outside was a bit chaotic. None of them really behaved the best so it was a lot of correcting bad behavior. Oh well!
That evening I let the boys watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets since we finished the book. They loved it!
Monday Scott and I took the boys to Target for a few things and on to Chuck E Cheese to play some games. I found a coupon on their website and it ended up only being $29.99 for unlimited games and play for an hour for two kids. I thought that was a good deal and the boys had a blast! Sean won so many tickets and they both were able to cash in their stuff for a few small trinkets they wanted.
That evening I met up with Gillian to go see Dumbo. It was pretty good, but definitely not my favorite Disney movie (animated or live action). I just enjoyed catching up with Gillian and seeing all the previews for the other Disney movies coming out this year.
Tuesday morning I took the boys to Ward Church for a play date with Evan's friend, Jude. They have an indoor playscape that's free and the boys love. Evan was so excited that the play date was for him.
We picked up Scott and went out to lunch at the new Bigalora downtown before going on to the Comfort Inn where the Green's were spending the night. We had a pool party and grabbed dinner at Zack's Diner in Plymouth before going home to crash. It was a fun day, but a busy one!
Wednesday the weather started to improve and warm up. We decided to clean out the garages and breezeway. Both boys helped do some cleaning and earned some "chore money". Scott found our kite and took the boys to the park to fly their kite. It was a stay home day, but we spent the majority of it outside.
Thursday was Opening Day! I'll post a separate post with all our fun plans and pictures.
Friday, we picked up the boys from Nana's house early in the morning since she had to work. After letting the boys play for a while, we decided to ride our bikes downtown to go to the library for books and to Dairy King. It was not quite 50 degrees when we left, but by the time we rode home, it was much nicer and sunnier out. Sean was so hesitant about riding down there this year for some reason, but he was fine after we got going. My little worry wort...
The weather was gorgeous by late afternoon so we cleaned the back yard up a bit, got out the yard furniture, and Scott practiced batting and catching with both boys. We grilled dinner and had a low-key evening at home.
Saturday we took the boys to Somerset for Chick-Fil-A and to shop at the Lego and Disney stores since they're our favorites. Both boys got a blind bag/small set from the Lego store. We dropped off the kids at my parent's house for a sleepover after visiting for a bit and then we were off to Top Golf with Scott's parents for a day date. Top Golf was sooo much fun! As a non-golfer going up against 3 very good golfers, I was very nervous, but I did great! I'd go back again in a heartbeat and I'd like to even bring the boys one afternoon in the summer when it's not busy. We grabbed dinner at Shield's before heading back to Plymouth to watch the State game.
Sunday we picked up the boys halfway between our houses and spent the rest of the day playing outside with the neighbors, doing more yard clean-up, and enjoying the last bit of our break. The laundry was done, grocery shopping done, and we accomplished a few small projects in the house over break too so we were feeling pretty good by Sunday night. I'm always amazed at how fast time goes during a school break, but we have one more card marking left in the school year and we are off for summer! Can't wait for all the fun things we have planned this summer!
