It's been an annual tradition for me and Scott to go down to Opening Day for years now. We used to have season tickets (before kids) and would do a huge tailgate with our friends. Over the years it's gotten more tame, but we still enjoy going. This year was soooo cold! The wind was blowing, which didn't help either.
We dropped the boys off in Troy at Nana's house for the day and went on to Detroit from there. We decided to go to Detroit Shipping Company based off a friend's recommendation. Parking was only $8 in a lot right by there and we paid another $20 to get a shuttle to and from the game for us both. The shuttle price included beer so it was a good deal! My friend Sarah and her old roomate, Bailey, met us at the Detroit Shipping Company and we hung out there for an hour or so before taking the shuttle.
The shuttle ride was probably the most fun part! It was an old school bus painted all crazy on the outside. Somehow Scott became the beer distributor for the people on the bus and everyone was cheering him on the whole time. He pocketed a few extras too...
We said goodbye to Sarah and Bailey when we got to Comerica Park since they weren't going in for the game. We sat in our usual section up top behind home plate, but stopped for some hot dogs on the grill with onions and peppers (my favorite part of going to a ball game!). They were delicious! We said "Hi" to Craig Monroe doing the broadcast, found our seats and tried to stay warm for the next 6 innings.
We called it quits after 6 freezing cold innings. The shuttle wasn't at the pick-up spot and we didn't feel like waiting, so we walked to our car which took 20 minutes (ugh!). We stopped at MGM Grand to gamble for a bit before heading home to pick up Taco Bell carry-out and watch a movie in bed. It's obvious we're not spring chickens anymore. Drinking all day made us tired and in bed by 8pm. But, it was a fun day!
And the Tigers won!!
