I Ran the D and other April Randomness
I've had my eye on this 5k since I started running over 2 years ago, but we've always had conflicts with either one of the boys' soccer games or with a beer festival we go to every year with Scott's sister. This year, I made sure to register us and let Scott's sister know we wouldn't be doing the beer festival. We went down Saturday evening to pick up our race bibs and shirts (which they had an issue with size M and L shirts so I didn't get mine) and grabbed dinner and beers at the Detroit Brewing Co. My parents kept the boys overnight for us.
The next morning was a chilly start, especially if we were standing in the shade waiting for the race to start. This is the biggest 5k I've done before and there were people everywhere. In fact, they had to release people to run in waves! We got out in the fourth wave about 20 minutes after the race started at 9. Scott promised he would keep my pace and we actually met in the middle. I ran faster than usual and he slowed down a bit for me so we could run together.
We both finished at 32:17, which was a PR for me! The sun was shining, Detroit was looking beautiful making that next loop to come back towards Comerica and Ford Field and we got to walk a lap around the field when we finished before we got out medal.
I was really proud of my time! Woo hoo! Such a fun morning. We grabbed breakfast at the Original House of Pancakes in Birmingham before picking up the boys in Troy.
Other honorable mentions for the month of April include random stops at local parks on our way home from school to enjoy it not raining.
Amazing sunsets!
Cute puppies and baby geese at work!
The boys' new obsession with Nintendo 64 and Mario Kart in the basement (thanks, mom and dad for saving everything!).
And a weeknight trip to the movies to see the Avengers Endgame movie, which was 3 long hours. The boys were antsy for the first half since it was a lot of building up the plot and character development, but the last half was amazing!
Somehow it's already May 10th and we're heading in to Mother's Day weekend. In 10 days we've already had the first Famer's market trip, a mulch delivery, cinco de mayo, lots of make-up soccer games from rain-outs, a field trip for Sean, and a celebration in Evan's classroom. Post to come...
