DIY: Gift Wrapping Station

This is what we were left to work with for our laundry room in the basement when we bought this house last August:

Not super attractive.

So, we bought a new washer and dryer.  Painted the floors.  Put in some storage shelves to hold all the laundry supplies.  We moved the yellow cabinet to the other side of the room and put an ironing board next to it.  And lastly, I knew I wanted to take advantage of that L-shaped cabinet and turn it into a gift wrapping station.

I'm not one to sew, so I asked my mom if she would make me some simple curtains that would hang on rods that I could use to hide what I put on the bottom of the cabinets.

Here's what she came up with.  Something bright and cheery:

I bought a four drawer plastic storage bin from Target for $24 to store all the tissue paper and gift bags.

Then I bought a ribbon holder from Michael's for $15.  And a desk caddy from Target for $5 to store the scissors, tape, and pens.

I had all these picture frames I had made from high school and college with nowhere to hang them and figured, why not put these up in my "room" of the basement?

Then I took the gift wrap out of one of those plastic storage containers that stands up right and put them on these two built in shelves that were already there.  They stick out a bit, but they don't impede my ability to do laundry or wrap gifts, so for now, I'm liking their new home.

And there you have it.  A simple and cheap way to turn some crappy wooden cabinets into a gift wrapping station!  Thanks for the help with the curtains, Mom!

As you can see, I already have some bags of things I bought to give to people for gifts ready to be wrapped...
