Sleeper State Park Camping 2023

We booked two nights at Sleeper State Park at the end of June during the week as a last minute thing to see how Luna would do tent camping for the first time.  We liked Lake Huron when we camped at Port Crescent two summers ago and figured Sleeper State Park was just down the road and worth a shot.  Unfortunately, Evan's baseball tournament times came in and would interfere with the trip so we rescheduled it for mid-July when his baseball was over.  It was finally time and the weather looked good so hit the road Monday morning around 10am and arrived in Caseville to have lunch and beers at Thumb Brewery before checking in to site #48 early at 2pm.

We were set-up and ready to walk over the overpass to the beach an hour and a half later.  We stayed at the beach from 3:30-6:30pm and it was a hot, beautiful day!  Luna had a blast swimming and getting the ball.  I swear she's meant to live somewhere warm on the water.

We made a snack dinner back at the campsite since no one was starving and since we had a big lunch.  It was perfect!  We got the fire going and hung out for a while.  Then I took the boys back to the beach for the sunset around 8:45pm and it was amazing!  Just amazing!  We went back and had s'mores and then we were all ready for bed.

The next morning we were up early.  No one slept well the first night.  We made eggs, bacon, and hashbrown patties for breakfast on the camping stove.  I tried out our JetBoil to make pour over coffee for Scott and hot tea for me.  Of course there were donut holes too!  We had a lazy morning after that, walking around the campground and exploring.  We went to the beach around 11:30am with lunch packed in the cooler, but only lasted about an hour.  It was much cooler and windier and it was not beach weather.  So, we just had a lazy day at the campsite with an all-day fire going.

For dinner, we made pizza pockets in the hobo pie maker over the fire.  Evan loved helping make them and they were pretty darn good!  I brought a bag Caesar salad to have with it and the kids had some fruit and veggies.  We all decided to go back to the beach since the sun came out and it was a bit warmer.  The kids and Scott were brave enough to swim.  I was not lol.  Luckily there was hardly anyone at the beach so we took Luna off her leash and let her run up and down the shore chasing her ball.  She loved it!  I stayed for the sunset and the kids and Scott headed back with Luna to take showers and get cleaned up.  After the sunset, we made desserts in the hobo pie maker.  Bread, butter, mini marshmallows, and apple pie filling - so good!  The kids experimented with mini marshmallows and peanut butter cups with the bread and butter.  It was a fun alternative to s'mores.

The next morning we made pancakes and had some leftover bacon.  We cleaned up and started taking everything down.  There was a short rain shower that came when we were waking up, but thankfully the sun came out after and dried everything quickly.  So, nothing was wet when we were packing up.  We did one last walk around the campground and dumped our trash.  And then we went back into Caseville to shop in the little shops and grab lunch at Beachy's before heading home.  Beachy's was delicious!  Everyone loved their meal.  And then it was time to drive home.  We made it back just before all the storms rolled into Plymouth for the evening.  Whew!
