September happenings!

September started off with a bang with Evan's 11th birthday and labor day weekend!  Aside from birthday celebrations, I also took the boys to the outlet mall in Howell for some back to school shopping for lunch.  The boys got quite a bit and we had a fun morning!  We also went to the pool for the last time before they closed for the rest of the year.  We grilled dinner and enjoyed some time at home before "back to school".

The Plymouth Fall Festival rolled in to town the weekend after labor day, like always.  Scott and I went to Bingo Friday night after work while the kids wandered around doing games and rides with their friends.  It was kind of weird to let them off on their own, but they're at that age!

I got into the fall cooking and decorating!  And enjoying those beautiful fall sunsets.

Fall sports are in full swing (separate post to come...) and they've kept our weeknights and weekends busy!

I took the boys to my school's Homecoming football game and successfully survived open house, spirit week, a pep rally, and the Homecoming game.  Whew!

Lastly, Scott and I went out for a few hours with my parents for an Oktoberfest party at my favorite local brewery, Bearded Lamb.  Their Oktoberfest beer is so good!  But, we also tried Arbor's, had dinner there, and grabbed a cocktail at The Ebenezer.

This month flew by!  On to October with my 40th birthday and Sean's 13th birthday!  Working on Halloween costumes already...

First Day of School 2023!

I feel like I say this every year, but holy cow!  How are the boys in 7th and 5th grade!?  Our last year of having a kiddo at elementary school.  Grabbing the tissue...

Sean is in 7th grade at East again this year and has a fun schedule with percussion and Spanish as his electives!  He actually has a former co-worker of mine to teach him Spanish so it helps knowing her really well!  The percussion class should be very cool since it's a small class of 12 kids and they focus on all the different percussion instruments.  They're currently working on the snare drum.

This fall Sean is doing soccer again with his team.  They moved from Plymouth Soccer to Northville Soccer to be able to accommodate his age group.  It's definitely different having practices in Northville, but it's not that much further than where they were before.  He's also doing another season of flag football with a different team.  This year they're the Buffalo Bills and they won their first game this past weekend!

I hope Sean has a great year again like he did last year!  I think it will be more challenging, but I know he can rise to it!

Evan is in 5th grade this year at Farrand and has Mrs. Nicklay for his teacher.  Sean had her for 4th grade during Zoom/Covid.  Evan really likes her so far and things are off to a smooth start for him!  He hasn't complained once.  I'll take that as a win.

Evan is doing a season of fall rec baseball with GCYBSA.  His old coach contacted us to see if we wanted to play during the off-season of travel and Evan said yes.  He's back with the Orioles.  They have games two nights a week at Heritage Park and he has practices Saturday mornings (with donuts from the coach!).  They're having an okay season as a team and Evan is really regaining some of his confidence that floundered a bit when his travel team went into a slump.  He'll be back with the Patriots travel team in November for another year.  He's also doing flag football this fall for the first time and seems to like it.  He's on the Cleveland Browns with his friend, Ethan.  They lost their first game, but Evan got to play quarterback for a bit and enjoyed it.

Here's hoping Evan has a better year; a year that makes him enjoy school again!
