Evan's Precision Patriots Event

Evan's travel baseball season is a month away from officially starting!  They've been practicing all winter 2 times a week in the indoor training facility.  Their organization, the Precision Patriots, puts together a nice event every March before the season officially begins where they honor veterans and have some come in to give a speech.  We didn't go last year because we had other things going on, but Evan and I went this past Friday and it was really cool!

This year the organization has one of their uniforms and hats honoring D-Day.  They had two WWII veterans (one was a man in the army and one was a woman who worked in a factory making bullets like Rosie).  They also had a paratrooper veteran (not from WWII) come and speak to what it would have felt like jumping out of a plane on D-Day to storm the beaches of Normandy.  The Yankee Air Museum had a booth set up with their workers dressed like Rosie Riveter.  You could purchase things they sell at their gift shop.  They also had memorabilia set up all over the indoor facility to look at and a live band performing at the beginning and end of the event.  It was really nicely done!

About half of Evan's team attended and he sat with them.  At one point the paratrooper who was speaking invited one kid up from each team to shake his hand and learn how to properly greet and thank a veteran.  Evan jumped right up and ran out front.  His coach stood with him.  I was very proud of him!

I'm glad we went!  A few more weeks of indoor practice and they'll move outside and then before you know it, the season will be underway!  I can't wait!
